Quick Review James Gunn’s Superman (2025)
I do enjoy the movie and it’s the best Superman movie I have ever seen, but there are some flaws

James Gunn’s Superman is decent but underwhelming. It starts strong by dropping us into the middle of the action. Superman is already established, and we skip the usual origin story. That part works. It keeps the pace tight and avoids rehashing the past.
But the trade-off is emotional depth. We don’t see how Clark was raised or what truly shaped his values. There’s barely any meaningful connection shown between him and the Kents. Jonathan Kent has a few solid moments, but they feel like fragments rather than a relationship. For a character defined by his upbringing, that’s a huge emotional gap.
The action especially the Ultraman fight is chaotic and uninspired. It’s mostly just people slamming each other through buildings with no real flow or impact. Side characters range from forgettable to annoying, and Lex Luthor’s “master plan” makes things worse. Putting Baby Joey, Metamorpho’s toddler son, directly opposite Superman’s cell with one normal human guard is mind-numbingly dumb. It ruins Luthor’s credibility as a strategist.
