I know many of you have been wondering why I've been so quiet lately and only managed to publish 2 videos this entire year! The truth is, we've been going through a lot as a family.

In April we had very scary time. My husband received a serious medical diagnosis that needed urgent treatment. Fortunately, this went very well, and he is making a full recovery. But this has taken a long time, has been very stressful, and is still ongoing. During that time, he also had to change jobs. He is a scientist just like me, and if you’ve watched any of my videos, you know that jobs in science can be unreliable. But true to his resilient spirit, he turned this challenge into an opportunity, starting his own highly successful consulting business.

With all of this going on, I haven't had much time for my hobbies, including YouTube. I started this channel after my maternity leave to take control of my career and grow new skills. I was so proud the day my channel was monetised, and I have such big ideas for where to take it. But the same week my channel got monetised, I started a brand-new job that represented a big promotion with a ton of new challenges. Because of the channel, I have been able to showcase my communication skills and been given new job opportunities working directly with communities and government agencies. But sadly, there are only so many hours in the day, and right now there just isn’t space to be the mother, wife, scientist, and person I want to be, with YouTube on the side. To quote Ron Swanson “never half-ass two things, whole-ass one thing”.

So at least for now, I need to step away from the channel and focus on everything going on at home and in my job. I am a type-A workaholic perfectionist who has never been happy without a project, but I think the project right now needs to be just to chill the heck out. I am hopeful that I will be able to pick the camera up again in future, but being pragmatic, I don’t think it will be anytime soon.

Thanks to everyone for all their kindness and support of the channel. I hope the videos were informative and fun, and truly hope to make more in future.

Hi everyone!

Sorry it has taken me two months to post another video, but it has been a crazy time. My family just moved across the country and both myself and my husband started new jobs. Everything is very exciting and busy, but it has left precious little time for filming and editing. Plus, I won't lie, I have also been playing a lot of Tears of the Kingdom. Hyrule isn't going to save itself! But I am back on track now that we have settled into our new home, and I have an actual room to film in!

For a bit of fun, and so you can all get to know me better, I made a very nerdy word cloud of the most common words in my research publications over the years. As you can see, sharks take centre stage, but I have also studied plants and other aspects of the environment too.

Hope you enjoy my latest video where I review Deep Blue Sea! And don't worry, now that it is out on streaming, my next reaction will be the Meg 2, so stay tuned!

Hi Everyone! I am working away on my next video where I discuss the toughest parts of being an ecologist. But in the mean time, for all you nature lovers, I wanted to show some of the amazing photos shortlisted for the Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year awards. Photos range from the magical to the intimidating, but all are astounding in their own way.

One of my favourites is attached here, called "Somewhere Under the Rainbow" by David Robinson. In this stunning photo, you can see a group of Galapagos sharks swimming at Lord Howe Island, Australia underneath a stormy rainbow. You can check out all the amazing photos at the link below. I hope they brighten your day :)

Hi everyone, I have a quick channel update!

It has been a little while since my last video but it has been for a very good and exciting reason! I recently accepted a new job working as a research scientist/ecologist for Australia's national science agency :). While this is great news for my career, it has made my life a bit hectic as I prepare to move across the country to start my new role.

But fear not! I am still committed to the channel and already have completed scripts for my next two videos. Once things settle down I will get back to filming.

Thanks so much to everyone who has subscribed and supported me in the early days of this channel!
