Chen Zha is a freelance artist based in California, he is deeply fascinated by the beauty of nature and has a professional background in entomology. He loves to give a shout out to the underrated and overlooked ones, and show their incredible appearance and diversity.
"I was really excited when I got a chance to design a sea spider pin. I'm an entomologist, but insects are not the only group of animals that I can not resist. Chelicerata has a special place in my heart, one of my favorite artwork ever done is an illustration featuring all the major groups of arachnida. And marine chelicerates are the coolest! I've done sea scorpions and horseshoe crabs, so now the sea spider would be the last piece of the puzzle.
Having in mind how extraordinarily leggy it was, I also needed to consider how to fit it into a small enamel pin with its weird body plan clearly represented. I really love how it turned out eventually, which came with 3 variants that I can't really pick a favorite."
