"It ain’t just the silence—it’s how they look at you, like they’re peeling away your soul without a single word. You’d almost rather hear a heretic’s scream than face those ghost-eyed warriors and their rattling quiet."
—Unknown Imperial Guardsman, 991.M40.
The Mute Hawks are a loyalist successor chapter that are known for their execution of the Raven Guard Legion's tactics to an extreme form of brutality, and hence do not comply with the Codex Astartes. They do not communicate verbally with each other but interact via gestures and poses, similar to the non-verbal communication methods of the Eldar. This is not because of a preference or tactic, but of a belief that actions give a better impact than any words.
The Chapter begins recruiting initiates first by the abandoning of verbal speech after practicing alternate methods, followed by the ritualistic removal of their vocal cords to completely eliminate the ability to speak.
Mute Hawks form a bond that cannot be described in any words possible, and can only relate with one another on a personal level. However to other Chapters they are often ridiculed and scorned, even by their fellow Raven Guard successor chapters. Any insult hurled at a Mute Hawk is met with a brutal response in order to prove a point on why someone shouldn't.
One particular incident occurred when a Red Scorpion captain mocked Kyrin Moriadus for his Chapter's muteness and obvious non-compliance to the Codex, without warning Moriadus punched him in the face, shattering his helmet and supplexing the Captain before he was subdued by his battle-brothers.
"Lo, I knelt 'neath the weight of mine own hubris, and in silence was I undone by him who speaketh not. His blade, swift as the Emperor's judgment, laid bare my folly for all to see. I am shamed, yet I accept the lesson writ in blood and pain, though bitter is its taste. Let it be known that the mute carry words sharper than any tongue, and I, a Knight of Titan, have learned this truth at grievous cost."
—Grey Knight on an unknown world ravaged by Chaos, somewhere between M36 and M38.
A second occurred when a Grey Knight, coordinating with the Mute Hawks in a battle against Chaos Forces, dismissed the Chapter as "mute mongrels too cowardly to speak the Emperor's word", expressing frustration towards having to work with them. This struck sergeant Reszan Ordaris to the core and without warning he lunged at the Grey Knight and feinted a direct strike, his opponent, believing this to be a futile attempt, did not draw his sword and prepared to block with his bare hands. However, Reszan immediately twisted and pivoted, reaching for the Grey Knight's sword and drew it from its scabbard. Reszan then struck his opponent in the soft armor near the thighs, and drove the sword into the soft armpit armor and severed several electronic components, leaving the Grey Knight's right arm limp. His ego would be shattered at the feeling of being successfully taken on by a "lower" chapter, reminding the Grey Knight of the Months of Shame at the hands of the Space Wolves. The Grey Knight later watched Ordaris make a gesture that clearly meant "Insult our Chapter again, and mercy will not temper my actions". As a result, Reszan was promptly promoted to Captain for his actions. The incident would cause significant tension between the Chapters and the Grey Knights would demand reparation, but it was only met with a gesture that meant: "Your arrogance met its lesson".
The Mute Hawks possess a heavy enmity with the Word Bearers, which stems from a horrific betrayal that occurred early in their history, shortly after their founding.
Around three or more centuries after the Horus Heresy, during the Great Scouring, the fledgling Mute Hawks were assigned to aid in hunting down remnants of Chaos-aligned forces in the Segmentum Obscurus. As a newly formed Chapter, they lacked significant combat experience and relied heavily on guidance from established Chapters and Imperial allies.
In one campaign, they encountered a rogue Word Bearers warband operating under the guise of an Imperial cult. These Word Bearers feigned loyalty to the Emperor, presenting themselves as penitent survivors who had resisted the lure of Chaos. They sought to manipulate the Mute Hawks' relative inexperience and gain access to the Chapter's fleet. The Mute Hawks, who were still refining their silent communication methods, and haven't adapted the vocal-cord removal ritual, struggled to fully convey their suspicions to their allies and were pressured by their superiors to trust the supposed defectors.
The betrayal came swiftly and brutally. At the height of the campaign, the Word Bearers launched a devastating ambush during a joint operation. They unleashed a warp-fueled ritual that destroyed one of the Mute Hawks' battle barges, claimed the lives of countless warriors, and corrupted an entire planet under the Chapter's protection. This treachery scarred the young Chapter deeply, particularly as their inability to effectively warn their comrades of the danger led to catastrophic losses.
From that moment, the Mute Hawks vowed eternal vengeance upon the Word Bearers. They viewed the Legion not only as heretics but as despicable manipulators who exploited trust and betrayed the Emperor's ideals. To this day, the Mute Hawks reserve their most brutal, silent fury for the Word Bearers, hunting them relentlessly across the stars, eager to silence their blasphemous words forever. The corpses of Word Bearers are often seen heavily desecrated and mangled beyond recognition, their armor and flesh scattered like sand across where they once stood.
This hatred also forged the Mute Hawks' unyielding resolve and further cemented their silence as an ironclad rule. To them, words are tools of deception; gestures and action are the only truths.

Putting my 40K homebrew here because I can't in Discord.
Chapter name: Embittered Vexes
Founding: 21st Founding (Cursed Founding)
Successors of: Iron Hands (Unverifiable), Iron Warriors (Rumored)
Primarch: Ferrus Manus (Unverifiable), Perturabo (Rumored)
Warcry: "Fate will see us break, but we shall rise again to fall once more!"
Size: 1,000 Marines
Chapter Master: Vhegor Zhorisch (KIA)
Homeworld: Uzavrelo
Fortress-Monastery: Kipuća Smetnja
Colors: Blue, silver and red
The Embittered Vexes are a tragic chapter, for within every brother is an inherent likelihood of failure to occur when one is to perform personal aims such as vengeance, conquering a world for the chapter or simply trying to build a defensive position. But when subordinate to other Astartes Chapters or Imperial units, they operate efficiently and prevail. This irony leaves them deeply frustrated and enraged, resulting in members going into a frenzied rage.
They are known for their expertise in mechanized warfare using tanks and mobile artillery pieces. However, they leave a majority of their maintenance to Techmarines from other Chapters for fear of their own causing a terrible accident.
The Vexes do not form any close bonds or attachments with their brothers because they believe friendships always fail, as is the case when Chapter Master Zhorisch perished when he coordinated with the Blood Angels, only to be slain by their Captain when he fell to the Black Rage.
During a battle for the Hive City Neobrad against a Dark Eldar kabal surprise incursion the Embittered Vexes who were stationed there found themselves heavily disorganized and outgunned even though they initially had superior numbers, firepower and even strategy, downing them from 60 Marines to 30 in only 43 minutes. Only when a Tempestous Scion and Harakoni Warhawks division were sent and took over did they repel the xenos with sergeant Vhegor Vaxxan slaying the Dark Eldar Dracon.
The curse of the Embittered Vexes allows them to prevail in any overwhelming odds if someone was to tell them to do so. However, should the Chapter's brothers do anything of their own volition, be it seeking atonement for failures or retrieving a valueble artifact of great value they fail in bizzare or unexpected ways. Despite this flaw, the Embittered Vexes desire to overcome it, knowing very well they will never escape fate's cruelty.
