Neera Arya was a veteran of the Indian National Army (INA). She served in the Rani of Jhansi Regiment of the INA. Neera Arya was born in Khekra Nagar on March 5, 1902. Her father was an affluent businessman. She completed her early education in Calcutta. Neera Arya was married to Shrikant Jairanjan Das, who was a British CID officer. Realising that Neera had joined the Indian National Army, Shrikant wanted Neera to assassinate Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. When Neera refused, Shrikant wanted her to disclose Netaji's whereabouts to assassinate Netaji himself. During a failed assassination attempt, Shrikant fired a shot towards Netaji. Netaji survived the shooting but his driver was killed. Upon hearing this, Neera stabbed Shrikant to death. Neera was imprisoned in the Cellular Jail of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for killing Shrikant and was brutally tortured. She even had her breasts cut off. Neera was released after independence. She lived the rest of her life in Hyderabad until her death on July 26, 1998.
