Salaams to you all - I shared this message a few days ago on another platform, wanted to share it with you all here as well.
To Allah we belong, and to Him we return. One of my teachers, Shaykh Abdullah Siraj has returned to the care of His Lord after a lifetime of service to the Quran. Honestly while there's sadness, there's also relief knowing the health struggles he's had in the last year of his life. May Allah forgive him and have mercy on him, and elevate his rank with every word that he recited and taught. I was one of his early students when he first came to Canada, probably like 20 years ago - I think I must have been in high school at the time! And I still have some of his original hand-written notes that he used to teach me from. I used to try to teach him some basic English while he would teach me tajweed. Pretty sure I won that trade 😅
The loss of such a senior scholar and preserver of the Quran is a reminder to myself - and all of us - that we need to step up, either to fill that void or to support those who can. Allah has promised to preserve His book, and He never fails in His promise. But are we going to actively be a part of the fulfillment of that promise?

Salaam everyone, this Sunday March 31 I'm running an adhan workshop - teaching how to call the adhan beautifully in maqam hijaz. We'll be using our Overnight Qari method of breaking down the patterns and showing you visually how to implement maqam hijaz in the adhan. And I'll show you a few options from a more simple adhan to a more complex adhan with more advanced fluctuations.
Last year I did a live workshop - short video is below. You can see a sample of the diagram on the board ... so students are not just listening and repeating, rather they're learning a structure they can follow.
