Well guys, I was looking forward to the first live stream chase of 2025 down in Kansas City to cover the blizzard. On the way down Saturday morning I started feeling sick⦠againā¦. This time a sore throat and body aches, headache and fever. I figured it was just a viral infection and Iād power through it in 2-3 days while still covering the blizzard for AccuWeather and live for yall on YouTube.
I got into Kansas City late Saturday night after midnight. It was a hell grind feeling sick. I set my alarm clock for 6 am to do my morning live hits from 7 am to 12 pm with Accu. Then planned to livestream to YouTube. When I woke up 5 hours later I was in even worse shape. I would do my live hits, while sleeping in between. Struggled through them in extreme pain. And then I laid in bed the rest of Sunday only leaving the hotel parking lot to shoot some footage for accuweather one time.
Sunday was hell. I was incapacitated by this āfluā. Which wasnāt a flu at all. I kinda thought it wasnāt because I didnāt have nasal congestion, and I wasnāt coughing at all.
Monday morning I woke up in the hotel and was even worse. āWoke upā well I really never slept at all because I was constantly up trying to clear my throat of mucus and phlegm. The pain was tremendous. Ibuprofen and DayQuil/nyquil barely made a dent in the relief. I needed to get home but no way I could do the 12 hour drive home now. Actually it was 13 hours now due to the blizzard aftermath; cars and semis by the dozens in ditches and snow/ice covered roads. I grinded through it to a Walmart for some water, Gatorade, and the only thing I could eat; yogurt and smoothies, more DayQuil, vapocool sore throat lozenges. Nothing really helped that much. I was in misery. I made it 3 hours north and shut it down in Omaha and laid down in another hotel the rest of Monday. Monday night was another night of not sleeping hell.
At this point Iāve had maybe 400 calories of food since the little I ate on Saturday. Iām trying to stay hydrated at least even though the pain to swallow is tremendous. Iāve hardly slept. The sleep is bad broken sleep. But I wake up Tuesday morning with the help of DayQuil and Iām feeling mildly better. Fever isnāt as bad. Headache isnāt as bad. Sore throat is just as bad as it was. But I think I can make the 10 hour drive home like this.
I begin to think that I probably have strep throat. Last time I had a sore throat this bad was senior year of high school and it was strep. And the no coughing is the big flag that I donāt have a viral infection.
I make it home Tuesday evening. Finally the nightmare is over. Well not quite yet. Tuesday night I go down hill fast again. Fever comes back. Headache from hell. Lymph node in neck is swelling all day Tuesday. Oh and this whole time Iāve been slowly losing my voice to the point now that people canāt understand what Iām saying. Tuesday night at home was the worst night yet. Iām 100% convinced itās really bad strep throat and I need help. So my loving wife makes an appointment for me with the doctor Wednesday morning; manages to pull some strings and get me in. Because I basically cannot talk now.
I get to the doctors and they test me up and I test positive for Strep. Can see in their faces that they know Iām in bad shape too. They also can barely understand me and see the extreme swelling in my throat. So they hook me up to an IV for antibiotics and steroids. And now finally, at the end of a day where I started the day feeling like death, I feel almost 100% cured. Iāll head back tomorrow for more IV and oral prescriptions after. Sleeping at home with a catheter in my arm. And Iām so looking forward to this first good nights rest in 5 days.
Sorry I did not get a livestream up for you guys :(
