Today, "From the Ashes" surpassed 66,140 views, which is the same number of still photos that were taken to make it. That's a fun statistic! Have a great day everyone.

Hey all!

So as you may have seen, FTA now has an official trailer, and a release window! After all this time, we're finally coming up on the end of the project. And I am EXCITED!

To be clear about where things stand: the movie is essentially finished. It can be watched from beginning to end and the vast majority of editing and polish is already done. I am allowing myself an extra month or two for some finishing touches (some music edits, etc) and then it will premiere in the fall.

When it's ready to go, I will upload a "Trailer #2" with an official release date, as well as a link to the premiere. I can't thank you all enough for your support and enthusiasm. I am beyond stoked to share this movie with you.

In total, there are 30 scenes in From the Ashes. 27 of them are finished. A summer 2021 release is looking like a legit possibility.

While it's difficult to predict how long it will be until FTA is finished, what I can say is that there are only THREE locations left to build. There is quite a bit of footage to be filmed within those locations, but compared to the 15+ sets that have already been used, I can't help but start to feel like I'm almost there. :-D

The movie is looking like it'll be about 90 minutes long. Right now, 60 minutes of it is watchable! At this pace, a 2021 release is feeling more and more realistic. I'm trying not to get ahead of myself, but I can almost taste the finish line. At some point I will put an official trailer together, and then ultimately I'd like to use the YouTube premiere feature so that we can all watch it together. More info on that to come later on.

And don't worry - I'm not rushing it, either. I want to feel good about this when its done; I'm not taking any shortcuts just for the sake of speeding things up. After nearly a decade, I owe it to myself not to be hasty. ;-)

Hi everyone!

So the resolution up-scaling took a little longer than I anticipated, but it is officially finished - all of FTA that has been captured is now 2K and I am thrilled! It was also a great chance to go over old footage and make improvements here and there without re-shooting anything. Today, I resume filming new scenes (all of which will be rendered at 2K from the get-go).

Have a (low-res) screenshot!

Today's update is a little more substantial and I'm very excited to share it!

Long story short, Past-Brendan made the mind-boggling decision to render FTA at a whopping resolution of 1280x540, even though the raw photos were shot at 4K. Present-Brendan can't remember the reason for this decision, but has set out to correct it!

Since I finished the most recent "Vwoom, vwoom, ksshhh" scene, I have gone back to the beginning of the film to "update" each scene to a much, MUCH better resolution of 2538x1080. I am thrilled with the result, especially in scenes with dimmer lighting. Yes, it has added a couple of extra weeks of work to the project, but it's already been eight years; the dramatically improved visuals are well worth the relatively tiny time investment!

I've attached a little comparison preview so you can see what I'm talking about. Talk soon! watch video on watch page
