Continuing the Spooky Season celebration and more hotel room processing, I have another HOO, this time SH2 185. SH2 185 is an H II region in the northern constellation of Cassiopeia. It is located around 10,500 Light Years distance. SH2 185 includes the reflection and emission nebulae IC 59 and IC 63. What makes this so spooky is that IC 63 is the Ghost Nebula, or the ghost of Cassiopeia. It was discovered by Max Wolf at the same time as IC 59, in 1893.

Trip out to NM went smooth. Met up with a YT friend, Lance with ‪@adventuresofshadowdog‬. He brought his dog shadow too! We got a great camp spot at 7400’ el and right now we’ve got beautiful clear skies! I drove by the VLA on the way here, we’re going to tour it tomorrow. More updates to come! Epic Astro trip video next week or so. We’ve got beautiful clear skies and a great camp spot!

In celebration of Spooky Season I'm getting some processing work done from my hotel room while traveling to Bortle 1 skies in New Mexico!
Here is my HOO image of SH2 142 The Wizard Nebula! This one is a favorite of mine during October!
The Wizard Nebula was discovered by the astronomer daughter of William Herschel, Caroline Herschel in 1787. It is at a distance of approximately 8500 Light Years from Earth, located in Cepheus.

Hey everyone! Sorry, no video this week. I’ve been busy preparing for a trip. I’m hitting the road for New Mexico tomorrow morning. I’m gonna be spending a week in Bortle 1 skies. I’m planning on getting lots of video of the trip and hopefully with any luck lots of images of DSO’s. I’ll try and check in if I can, but I’m pretty much gonna be off grid.
Talk soon!
Cheers!
Doug

Hey Everyone! Latest Image: IC 1318 Gamma Cygni or Butterfly Nebula in Cygnus
IC 1318 is a larger H-II nebula complex comprised of both emission and dark nebulae and is part of the large Cygnux-X star formation region. IC 1318 is a supernova remnant which is estimated to be around 10,000 years of age. The Butterfly Nebula is approximately 8,400 Light Years from Earth.

This image also captured the open star cluster, NGC 6910, which was discovered on October 17, 1786 by German-British astronomer William Herschel. NGC 6910 is about 3700 light years from Earth.

Here's my latest image.
The Bubble Nebula w/ M52 (10-17-2024)

NGC 7635, also known as the Bubble Nebula, Sharpless 162, or Caldwell 11, is an H II region emission nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia. It lies close to the open cluster Messier 52. The "bubble" is created by the stellar wind from a massive hot, young central star, SAO 20575 (BD+60°2522). The nebula is near a giant molecular cloud which contains the expansion of the bubble nebula while itself being excited by the hot central star, causing it to glow. It was discovered in November 1787 by William Herschel. The Bubble Nebula ranges from 7100 to 11,000 Light Years from Earth.

Messier 52 is an open cluster of stars in the highly northern constellation of Cassiopeia. It was discovered by Charles Messier in 1774. M 52 is approximately 4600 Light Years from Earth

Hey Everyone! New video will be out tomorrow. AstroAF - You Can Create Amazing Colorized HOO Mosaics!!
Buy Me A Coffee and YouTube Channel Members have access right now!

In this video: I give you a comprehensive NINA and PixInsight tutorial, we delve into the intricate process of capturing, stacking and processing an HOO (Hydrogen-Alpha, Oxygen-III) astrophotography mosaic using NINA (Nighttime Imaging 'N' Astronomy) for acquisition. Then we have a look at organizing your image data so that you can stack your mosaic panels and generate masters in a single stacking process. Finally, we run through an awesome HOO colorizing technique that I have been having a great time using in my own images.

Cheers!
Doug
