Technically, this film was released @ the end of December 2022 but I only got around to seeing it today which is my *first* movie of 2023.
With a dramatic start filled with sexual content, drugs and big band music, Babylon, which was set in the 1920s, followed several movie stars from their rise to fall with the leading cast roles of Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, who was annoyingly good! I enjoyed the fashion and actress, Li Jun Li looked stunning in her attire.
Although the storyline was confusing and rather disjointed, the film got better as it moved along but three hours and nine minutes is far too long even for the average cinema goer to remain focused (I realise that Avatar is also over three hours too).
Babylon tried to highlight several messages including race, snakes within the industry and at the end of the movie, it did emphasise on the move from silent to spoken movies and also, the introduction of musicals.
I think the Director/Producer overloaded this film with too much content whereas a more simplified approach may have made the film far more appealing and successful.
