I'm a little late, but I wanted to wait to finish Battle Assault 3 to post about it-
Thank you for 1,000 subscribers! I will be doing backlog content for a bit, but in the meantime, feel free to suggest a series you would like to see!

I've uploaded my first YouTube short- The ALL Basic SP Attack series. Originally, the plan was to only showcase MS playable in all four Dynasty Warriors: Gundam games, but if you want more, please pick an option down below for the minimum games that an MS should be playable in to be featured!

With Encounters wrapping up soon, it's time to put out a poll for the next series!

Additionally, since release internationally, I have been regularly putting time into UC Engage to prepare for videos on that series. They would just be matches following the featured MS around, since you don't really *play* the game. If you vote for it in this poll, it will get a dedicated series. Otherwise, Engage videos will be released similarly to how I post GBO2 videos, in between or during other series at my discretion.

Gundam Encounters in Space (PS2) Review!

My expectations were mixed coming into this game, but I was overall pleasantly surprised.

The story modes of the game vary in length, typically 4-8 levels. You play as many aces up to Stardust Memory, including Amuro, Gato, Shin Matsunaga, Ford Romfellow, and more. Each story mode has original 2D animated cutscenes, and decent mission variety. There are on-rails segments called "Route Tubes" that serve as moving the player to another segment of the level in a more natural way. I honestly thought they were cool! They have plenty of cinematic events going on while you zoom through them, and they usually don't take too long.

The mission type variety is far above what I expected. There are the typical "kill all" and "don't die" missions, but there are also missions where you are supposed to board an enemy ship to force it to surrender, escort missions, missions with base destruction, and even missions where you manually clear debris or move supplies, which was a refreshing change. This game only takes place in space, but it has a little more variety than UC. There are several mostly blank or asteroid-heavy areas, but there are some cool space station interior segments, and more dense ship formations.

The roster is the expected characters, with a good amount of niche picks, like Gene, Chuck Keith, Ryu Jose, etc. Characters have abilities similarly to Climax UC, which give them some minor gameplay changes. There is a custom character mode as well, where you choose between 6 characters (with 2 voice personalities each) that you will level up and pick skills and stats for. Suit variety is good... but most of the roster play identically with only number differences. There is a very nice selection of MA and ships!

Controls are decent, with some predictable lock-on jank. While unlocked, the camera actually moves at a useable speed. I don't know how this came out almost 10 years before UC but still manages to have less disorienting gameplay...

The difficulty level, in most cases, is fine. The main problem is that the game likes spawning enemies behind the player very often, which can lead to taking some unfair hits or being unable to protect an escort target. Health and damage in the story modes was clearly designed with purpose, with enemies taking an appropriate amount of hits to destroy (grunts usually take no more than 2 shots to kill, stronger units like Gelgoogs can take more). I had to S Rank a lot of the game to unlock everything, and I would not recommend doing that. Score is heavily dependent on killing multiple enemies with lock-on shots in the same string, so if one enemy decides to roll or move unpredictably, and the other stands still, you just lost your S Rank and have to restart the entire level, since segment retries will lower your score further. Playing this way was not a fun experience for me...

Overall, a decent game! Would recommend a Ace Pilot/White Base/Thoroughbred playthrough for Universal Century fans just to see the cutscenes.

Thank you to β€ͺ@albertocordero457‬ for becoming a channel member!
Encounters still has about half the roster left, so no poll for a bit. Not the most dynamic game to cover, but I'm sure it's tickling some people's nostalgia!

Gundam UC (PS3) review!

A game with some potential, but was likely very rushed. I know it has plently of hype because of FromSoft, but in my opinion, it lacks the detail that people enjoy their games for. There's some satisfying ship destruction and fanservice team crafting, but I don't think I'll be replaying UC after I've finished recording.

The game only takes place over the first 3 Unicorn OVAs, so there isn't really a proper ending. There are some 3D cutscenes, but most of the cutscenes are stills from the movies with narration. Before you can even start real missions, there's an unskippable (as far as I could tell) 10+ minute tutorial, with 20+ more minutes that are optional. In the campaign, you play as several characters, such as Marida and Banagher, but because you only have half the story to work with, each character only has around 4 missions, some of which are the same battle but from the other side.

There ARE multiple mission types, but unfortunately, the game really likes escort missions. It felt like a whole third of the Custom Cast mode was escort missions. During CC mode, your team has a point limit that determines which MS, pilots, etc you can equip. This is the progression system for the game, since many mission goals are tied to killing a large amount of enemies quickly, which weaker suits just can't do due to low DPS or ammo. This means that you're more limited in your choices, and you can't just drop in and play whichever MS you want. (A Loto, for example, can't kill enemies fast enough in some missions where there's a swarm of guys attacking an ally)

The game is pretty easy as long as you have enough DPS for the stage. Enemy AI aren't particularly good at punishing you and are not very aggressive. They're fairly defensively competent, at least... units fly around randomly and dodge attacks, units will regularly guard, enemy aces will occasionally fly to the opposite side of the map for no reason, and even on easy, they parry the majority of melee attacks (if they're not in the middle of an attack). Allied units can occasionally kill enemies, but their sense of self-preservation is very poor.

Maps in the game ARE huge, but most of them are blank space or an asteroid field. There are only two maps I can think of with terrain, and you play them only a few times. The sun glare can also be annoying.

The playable/crewable characters list covers a lot of side characters , but given that they were only using the first 3 OVAs (+ Char and Amuro), it was probably necessary. The playable suits list is acceptable, but over half the cast are clones.

The controls feel very inconsistent. I don't know if it's a hardware issue, but dodging sometimes triggers at a light touch of the left stick, and sometimes requires mashing it multiple times. Quick ascent/descent is much better for evading fire. You can't strafe while moving in this game, and your turn radius is really bad, so delicate positioning is difficult. The best way to follow an enemy is just by holding strong melee. Lag and hitstun also feel very random. Sometimes enemies get up extremely early from a stun, sometimes they can guard in the middle of an attack. Some moves can be buffered after, some can't. Locking on also prioritizes the closest enemy over an enemy that you're looking at.

The music seems to be very simplistic 4-chord loops based on Sawano's work for the series. Personally, not a fan.
