As part of the restoration process for Melbourne tram W2 393, it is being repainted in a nice blue colour which will replace the current shade of green which it has. While not historically accurate it will make this tram stand out from the rest of our operational fleet. The first three images show the progress of the repainting so far while the fourth image shows the interior of the tram. Unlike the later W series trams 393 has mostly wooden seats and three doors per side. W2 class trams like 393 also had much smaller cabs than later W series trams as well.

While it may not look it, 393 is actually able to operate and is currently used on shunting duties around the Carbarns. However it still requires much more work before you will be able to ride on our soon to be blue tram.

More progress has been made on our Tramway Extension Project!

The old triangle track has been completely removed, allowing for the final foundation works to be completed. Soon track laying will commence.

Image 1:
A view of the triangle from the Whiteman Park railway station leg of the triangle.

Image 2:
Looking towards Whiteman Park railway station from the new tramway alignment. The track will continue towards the station, curving slightly to the right to arrive at the tram stop.

Image 3:
What remains of the former Lord Street Branch which ran to the original entrance of Whiteman Park. Unfortunately this section of track isn't being used for our new Entrance branch. The new branch continues to the right, heading towards the railway station.

Image 4:

Image 5:
Looking back from the triangle towards Pia's Place and Mussel Pool. To the left of the image are rails which will be reused on the extension.

We will have another video update on the progress out soon, to keep you informed.

From the 22nd of July our tramway will be temporarily shutdown to allow for work to commence on upgrading the tramway triangle as part of the Whiteman Park Tramway Extension Project. We currently do not have a confirmed date for when the tramway will be open, but we will let you know when you can ride a tram again.

This means that Sunday the 21st of July will be the last time we will be operating a tram over the old triangle. Feel free to come out for a ride!

Perhaps two of the highlights of being a member of the Perth Electric Tramway Society is our Easter and Christmas barbeques. It's a great time to catch up with your fellow PETS members and eat some yummy food. And lets not forget the awesome night time tram rides too!

This is just one of the many benefits of volunteering with the Perth Electric Tramway Society, so why not consider joining us?

Work is continuing on the restoration of Adelaide type H tram 372.

After many hours of hard work our restoration team have finally repaired all the air leaks which have been plaguing the tram for some time now. Thursday the 4th of July was the first time that the tram was able to be fully pressurised, which allowed us to open the trams unique folding doors for the first time in 17 years.

When the doors open a step unfolds below the door and a mirror also unfolds at the top of the doors. This give the motorman (tram driver) a good view of passengers disembarking and embarking on the tram.

Did you know that these trams have a top speed of 70km/h? Despite being 95 years old, they are still one of the fastest trams in Australia!

These trams are capable of running as coupled two or three car sets. Fortunately our society also possesses type H tram 371 which is waiting for its turn to be restored. Once 372 and 371 are both restored you might get to see them operating together to form a two car set!

We are aiming to have 372 operating by late 2024 to early 2025, however this may change due to the uniqueness of the type H tram.

Our METRO AREA EXPRESS light rail proposal explainer video is now uploaded!

We were aiming to upload this video earlier today but some last minute changes were made to the video. As a result we will be releasing a second METRO AREA EXPRESS video in a few weeks which will analyse the proposal further by looking at it's route through the CBD and where the depot could have been located.

Following this video, we will start to work on the Fremantle - Canning Bridge light rail proposal which received the most votes.
