Get free money by investing in your 401(k)...the name sucks but the account is awesome.
A 401(k) plan is a retirement account that many companies offer to their employees (ask your HR representative if your company offers a 401(k) plan).
Itâs a âretirementâ account because it gives you large tax advantages if you agree not to withdraw your money from the account until you reach the retirement age of 59½
(You donât actually have to start withdrawing your money until youâre 70½ years old.)
Itâs not hard to set up - your company does most of the work. In fact you can instruct them to automatically withdraw a certain amount from every paycheck.
Be aggressive with how much you contribute to your 401(k) because every dollar you invest now will likely be worth many more times that in the future.
Your company might offer an insanely lucrative 401(k) match. This is free money that you absolutely, positively need to participate if your employer matches.
It doesnât matter what kind of debt or expenses or whatever you have - if your company offers a match, do it.
Managing (and growing) your money shouldnât be so difficult to understand.
Thatâs why I created this free guide for you that shows you EXACTLY how to set up your money system so you can stop stressing and start taking action. Get access to my Money Made Easy mini course today: iwt.com/money-ct

Here are some common goals I see people make time and time again:
- âI want to get healthy.â
- âI want to pay off my debt.â
- âI want to find a new job.â
The general intention is good. But these goals are too broad. When we have a goal like âI want to get healthy,â we set ourselves up for failure because we donât know where to start and what âhealthyâ even is!
SMART goals help you narrow these down. Do the work up front to define what success looks like. If you aren't sure, guess! Just write it down, then course correct when you check in next week or next month.
SMART Objectives areâŚ
*Specific: What will my goal achieve?
*Measurable: What does success look like?
*Attainable: Are there resources I need to achieve the goal and what are they?
*Relevant: Do I really want to do this?
*Time-oriented: What is the deadline?
Letâs practice building a SMART goal today. Tell me below one SMART Objective for something you want to accomplish in this WEEK.

Here are 3 things to know before starting a business:
First, you need to BELIEVE that you have skills which people will pay for. Everyone does...Just ask your partner or friends what youâre really good at to get started.
Next, remember you donât have to quit your job on day 1 of launching your business. Many of my students started their businesses on the side while working their full-time jobs.
Lastly, remember that slow and steady wins the race. Itâs important to get your mindset right going into this new, exciting endeavor, build resilience, and be creative. Believe there are opportunities everywhere.

They say you get what you pay for, and this is true when it comes to a number of things.
I learned a long time ago that I would rather invest a little more money into my shoes and clothes, rather than buying new ones every few months.
This philosophy has made its way into how I invest and decide on whatâs important to me.
Thereâs a lesson here. You can make quick frameworks around how you choose to spend your money, based on what really matters to you.
I care about clothes. And I care about the people who made them.
I bought these shoes YEARS ago and wore them down.
Some of the places I buy my clothes from offer lifetime repairs for FREE (these shoes are from Brunello Cucinelli, which offers free repairs.) These are some of the perks of high-end brands â theyâll repair sweaters, coats, pants, even shoes.
So I took my old sneakers in to be repaired & cleaned. They sent them back to Italy where they were repaired by artisans in their factory, and then shipped back to me.
âď¸ My philosophy: Buy the best and keep it for years and years (this is # 6 on my Money Rules)
I took these photos before I sent them in. They said it would be a few months. No Problem.
At higher end places, things take time: Fine restaurants take hours. Bespoke suits take months. Life isn't always about efficiency!
I believe in buying the best, then holding onto it for as long as possible. Some of my clothes are 10+ years old.
From a financial perspective, this mirrors the way I invest. But there's also something rewarding about not buying fast fashion or cheap fads *for the things that are important to you.*
There's this phrase, "luxury is that which can be repaired." These shoes are just a tiny example!

This person just realized why they are âworking to just to surviveâ â because 99% of take-home pay is going to fixed costs!
This is more common than you might imagine.
Most of us are so deep in the weeds that we never zoom out to understand a big-picture view of our finances
Itâs extremely easy to go your ENTIRE life paying bills and playing catch-up with one unexpected expense after another â thatâs not managing money.
I want you to go on offense with your money, not defense. The first step is to understand where your money is going.
