Today I just taught my students about some traditions in Chinese new year. Do you know that today is the right day for you to visit your wife's original family(返外家faan1 ngoi6 gaa1)? We don't only get together to have a meal these few days at random. In the past, once daughters get married, they should stay in husband's place to take care of the family. Only the second day of the lunar year, married daughters can visit their parents with their husbands. Nowadays it is not that strict. But when Chinese new year is coming, married daughters don't visit their parents until this day. It's said that if married daughters visit their parents on the first day, it will make their parents' family poor. Is it interesting?
