Foreign investors are scared of putting their money in the Philippines.

The economy has all the right ingredients for growth: trade hub, resources, young workforce, English speakers. Yet wages remain low and millions of Filipinos leave for work abroad. Why? Strict investment laws, lack of jobs, and businesses struggling to pay employees keep opportunities scarce.

The OECD ranks the Philippines as one of the most restrictive countries for foreign direct investment, right alongside Libya. That means less capital, fewer jobs, and more talent forced overseas just to survive.

But it doesn’t have to stay this way. Loosening investment restrictions, like Singapore and China once did, could open the floodgates for growth, jobs, and prosperity here at home.

In this episode, John Dang and Orion Perez break down why foreign investors hesitate, how laws hold us back, and what reforms could unlock the Philippines’ full potential.

Most Filipinos think the key to wealth is earning more. But without a strategy, a bigger income often means bigger spending leaving savings and investments stuck at zero.

This is where Chinkee Tan’s Principle of Spending changes everything. It’s not about depriving yourself it’s about keeping your spending steady while increasing the percentage you save and invest as your income grows.

With ₱20,000, you start small: 5% savings, 5% investments, 90% spending. But when you hit ₱100,000, the game shifts to 20/30/50

₱20k savings, ₱30k investments, ₱50k spending. Same lifestyle, bigger future.

In this podcast, Chinkee explains how OFWs and hardworking Filipinos can use this method to grow wealth without sacrificing comfort, and why discipline not just income is the real secret to financial freedom.

Metro Manila isn’t just overcrowded. It’s ungovernable.

The MMDA handles traffic, flood control, and waste disposal. But when it comes to land use or urban planning, they have zero control. Each of the 17 LGUs in Metro Manila operates independently, following its own land use plan with little coordination.

And that’s by design.

After the 1986 People Power Revolution, the Metro Manila Commission (MMC) was stripped of executive powers. It became the MMDA, which lacks real authority to govern the region’s development.

✅ The fix:
• Give MMDA actual developmental authority
• Appoint a governor for Metro Manila
• Force LGUs to coordinate
• Build infrastructure outside NCR to reduce overpopulation

Until we fix governance, we won’t fix the city.

Everyone talks about progress but at what cost?

Bulacan was promised growth with the New Manila International Airport. But poor planning, environmental tradeoffs, and political noise are turning a billion-peso bet into a billion-peso risk.

Mangroves cleared. Flood zones ignored. Fishponds paved over. Engineering can’t outbuild nature or outsmart politics.

Urban planners like Paolo Alcazaren are sounding the alarm. Locals are paying attention.

The dream? Make Bulacan a true economic powerhouse.
The question? Will it still rise or will it sink under its own ambition?

Let’s talk about infrastructure, environment, and equity before it’s too late.

Follow for more grounded takes on Philippine development.
