Happy Saturday everyone!
Just wanted to give you all a quick heads up that this week's upcoming video will launch MONDAY (November 4th) at 2:00pm PT instead of the usual Tuesday.
If you're unaware, the United States (where I'm based) has a big election on Tuesday and I figured many people will be paying less attention to things like weird geography videos. So... MONDAY is it!
ALSO, this week's video is an extra special episode for the occasion. You should go into watching the video with 0% seriousness. It's all in goofy fun 🤪

I hit 500,000 subs over the weekend! Which is really cool and really momentous. In fact, I'm a little in shock over it, even though I knew it was been coming for a while. It's kind of weird. Anyway, I know subs are more of a vanity number than anything else, but it got me pretty introspective on my journey to becoming a full time content creator. If you're interested in reading about that journey (the highs, lows, successes, failures, and everything in between) I've written about 4,000 words all about it. Check it out right here:

And sorry for linking away from here, but the community post editor is pretty limiting in what I can do. Which is weird because didn't Google buy Blogger a long time ago? This should be more fleshed out! 😓

Guys! I am barreling towards 500,000 subscribers. In fact it should come sometime within the next week or so. It's very exciting as I never expected to get this far.
To celebrate I've done two things:
1. I'm giving away $250 to my map store (this should get you basically anything on the site aside from the really large or 3D prints) as well as two other special prints (three winners in total)
2. I've made a whole video where I ranked every single state's geography which comes out later today.
Both are really exciting. Both are really fun. Both are for YOU!
This is the only way I can say thanks for being here and allowing me to make fun geography videos for a living.
So go watch the video. Enter the contest. And get ready for a whole lot more geography in the future because I'm just getting started here.
And if you want to browse my map store first, you can! Check it out here: geoffxmuirway.com/ I'm also running a labor day sale but that's a little different. 🤭

Which state has the BEST geography in your opinion?
WAIT! Don't answer here... put it in THIS poll: forms.gle/UctNNpXpo7eZZ3cL8
Answers will be used to help me with some really fun future content, but I need a good variety and depth of responses.
You're welcome to comment here, but also please go to the POLL: forms.gle/UctNNpXpo7eZZ3cL8

Got questions about Bavaria?
Another episode is getting recorded next week and we're going to dive deep into Bavaria, Germany! This is with a friend of mine and journalist who lives there. So it should be a pretty great episode.
I've incorporated three community questions into my upcoming Japan episode and I'd love to do the same for Bavaria so ask away!

Super sorry for missing most of today's video premiere! Between the new podcast series (and all the extra work that goes into that) and my partner moving in today, time just escaped. 😵💫 So if you were there and you missed my polls and banter, I apologize!
But I'll be there next week! 🤠
I hope you all enjoy learning more about the Great Lakes Megaregion!

Got questions about Japan?
I'm recording my fourth episode for the Around The World series on Wednesday and this one will be all about Japan! I'd love to incorporate a few community questions as part of the flow. So... if you have some, drop em in the comments and I'll be sure to ask. Depending on how many I get, I might not be able to get to em all, so please keep that in mind. If I do use yours, I'll give you a shout out!
And in case you haven't watched the first episode yet, the basic format is:
1. Overview of the country
2. Physical Geography
3. History
4. Visitor recommendations
You can ask anything you like, but maybe that's helpful to know?
Let's hear em!

FUN NEWS! I am launching a new podcast and video series called 'Around the World with Geoff' which will live right here on the channel or whatever podcast app you might prefer.
In every episode, I'll tackle a new country, state or province (maybe even a city!) and I'll have a guest who's from there! Together we'll run through a what the country is, it's geography, history, and helpful visitor information ALL from someone who actually knows the place! And interspersed in between? Trivia, jokes, laughs, and fun conversation!
I've already got Kayleigh from @HistoryWithKayleigh to talk to me about the Netherlands, @General.Knowledge to talk Portugal and my buddy @PlateauAstro to talk Quebec, Canada with lots more guests planned that will be announced later.
The videos will live here on the channel and the podcast will be available to listen on YouTube music as well. But you can also listen on a bunch of other apps. So subscribe now if you want to get them on whatever you might listen too!

Ohio! I've always been fascinated by the Buckeye state. For one, its physical geography is more varied than its reputation suggests, but also... it's population distribution is very different from most other states! Ohio's three largest metropolitan regions - Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland - are all roughly equal in size (though admittedly, about 500,000 of Cincinnati metro's population is within Kentucky) which is weird by itself. But also the state has many more metro areas that are also pretty sizeable such as Dayton, Toledo, Akron, Canton and Youngstown. If we look even to Michigan in the north, we don't see nearly the same kind of population distribution. So I dug into why Ohio is so different.
You can check out the video today at 2:00pm PT and I'll be there in the live chat premiere! It's been a couple weeks since I've done this and I missed ya'll. 😀 So come join if you can!

No 60 Second Cities this week 😫 I'm coming off a trip last week and gearing up for another this weekend and, for those that follow the @GeographyPod podcast you'll know that we have an extra special episode coming out tomorrow where we interview Jesse Alexander from the @TheGreatWar YouTube channel all about World War I.
These three things (as well as some super secret content 😉) has kept me from being able to devote enough time to 60 Second Cities. But don't worry! We'll explore Luanda, Angola together next week!
