Making bread is a lot like running a business.

Those of you that know me well know that late last year I developed a bread-making hobby. 🍞

I'm currently making 2-3 loaves of sourdough a week.

It's a fun and delicious hobby. And my kids love it too.

But when it comes to homemade bread, some loaves are amazing, and some just ok.

But regardless, there is nothing better than fresh homemade bread.

Yesterday I completely muddled the loaf.

I started it too late in the day, I didn't fold it enough, and then I made the mistake of leaving it on the counter all night instead of putting it in the fridge.

When I woke up this morning the dough had collapsed, it was way too sticky, and the gluten hadn't properly formed so it wasn't sticking together.

I almost gave up on the loaf and threw the dough in the trash.

But I knew that if I did that, it would be at least two days before we had more bread to eat. And we can't have that!

So I took this sticky mess and dumped it in the loaf pay this morning, assuming that it would turn into a disgusting brick in the oven.

Except that it didn't. It actually came out ok and I'm looking forward to having it with some soup later today!

Now, as a trademark attorney, I see so many entrepreneurs with great ideas and muddled execution.

They handle their business the way I handled this recent loaf of bread.

They procrastinate and don't put enough effort in in the early days. They get started and then stall out. Then they just completely neglect their business for months at a time and wonder why things aren't happening.

When they finally get around to working on their business, they ditch their initial idea for another idea that will take them even longer to get going.

As a result, they never get to see what would happen if they just saw their initial idea through to the stage where they are actually making money.

If you are stuck spinning your wheels right now and aren't sure what to do next, just take the next logical step.

Who knows? You might just surprise yourself.

Attached is the image of the bread I made this morning. I sure am glad I didn't toss the dough in the trash.

A couple of months ago I was lucky enough to interview Alexandra Watkins about what makes a great brand name for your business, as well as how to avoid picking a bad name.

This was one of my favorite interviews of 2023 😁, and if you are thinking about rebranding your business or just need to pick a better name for your brand, this is one episode you don't want to miss.

We talk about her signature SMILE method for picking an excellent brand name, as well as her SCRATCH method eliminating potential names from your list.

Don’t miss this episode!

Thank you to everyone that responded to my poll yesterday. I'm still trying to learn more about how I can better meet your legal needs when it comes to legally protecting your business. In the past I've created courses and membership communities to better serve entrepreneurs who are just starting out. Moving forward, my plan is to create a low cost monthly subscription that gives my clients access to my courses, a knowledge bank of legal resources, unlimited phone calls with me, contract templates, monthly office hours, and much more.

The initial price point would be around $100/month.

What do you think?

Hi Everyone - I'm sorry I have not been posting videos lately. It's been a crazy fall so far as I just moved back to North Carolina, and there are some changes going on with my law firm. I'm considering switching to a subscription-based model for legal services.

If this is something you are interested in, let me know below or post a comment to let me know what you think and what type of subscription would be most valuable to you!

I don’t post a lot here. But I wanted to share this Go Fund Me page for a dear friend of ours in North Carolina who tragically lost her husband this week.

Tomorrow I'm going to be posting a video on the differences between Trademarks and LLC's and which I think you should focus on first with your business... But out of curiosity, which do you think you should focus on first?
