I use Checkmk to monitor my HomeLab/Automation so I built a custom extension to let it monitor the health (connectivity, calibration, battery) of my Tado devices. If this would be useful for you: I've published the extension on the Checkmk Exchange, and the code on GitHub.

I don't claim to be a developer, I built this for myself and decided to share it. If you think you can make it better, go ahead!

New video coming... this time tomorrow.
For some reason I starting publishing at 9 a.m. on a Wednesday in the UK and just stuck with it, but given a lot of you are still in bed and I need to get to work I thought I'd try shifting things around. Stay tuned, and let me know if it works out better for you.
A company that makes hair straighteners wants to sponsor the channel if I'll post videos promoting their products. I'm not sure this is going to work...
I tried to record a serious analysis of the RHEL source code changes. I rewrote the video several times but couldn't find the right tone. Then I woke up and thought "Sod it, this doesn't deserve serious." Video going up on Wednesday. This is a screenshot.
AlmaLinux is no longer striving for bug-for-bug compatibility with RHEL, and will instead aim for binary compatibility and will get their sources from CentOS Stream.
Are you more or less likely to use AlmaLinux now?
I respect that they're trying to steer themselves away from upstream risk, and attempting to differentiate themselves from RHEL/Rocky, but I bet there are a lot of people who installed AlmaLinux specifically for its bug-for-bug compatibility who will now be questioning their choice.
IMO AlmaLinux's relevance will largely depend on how they choose to differentiate themselves now they are no longer constrained by bug-for-bug. I see little value in a Stream clone, but "like RHEL, with additional drivers/software" could appeal to a lot of people.
They're digging in on this one: "Ultimately, we do not find value in a RHEL rebuild and we are not under any obligation to make things easier for rebuilders"

π¨βπΌ About Me
My name is Andrew Quinn. I'm a technology strategist and IT consultant. I've been working in IT for longer than I'd care to admit, starting with repairing computers while I was still in school and now helping large enterprises to define and deliver their technology strategy. I am passionate about technology and the opportunities it presents.
π¬ About The Channel
Keeping up with technology can be a challenge for IT pros, and many who have inherited the responsibility of a technology decision-maker don't have the time or the background to research everything they need to make informed decisions. I started this channel to provide answers to common questions brought to me in the field. I also sprinkle in some content that I think is interesting or fun, so you don't have to be a hardened sysadmin or stressed-out IT manager to find something useful here. Many of my subscribers just like technology!
