Ahh relief! We have needed to get this small project done since we moved in. It has driven us NUTS for almost 2 years and I just kept pushing it to the back burner but here we’re are and it is done! Spot the difference. Hint: very subtle and probably wouldn’t bother a lot of people but for the OCD/ type A personalities, y’all know!

2 of 3 mite treatments done ✔️ I’ve chosen OAV (oxalic acid vaporization) for the fall treatment at 3 treatment five days apart with @lorobbees instant vap. These girls are gearing up for winter and looking good from the queen to the comb. We still have a good amount of warm weather here in zone 7 but winter will be here before we know it.
Bees need a healthy queen, good numbers, wind protection and plenty of resources going into winter. ❄️
I just posted a video on YouTube (link in bio) of the most recent honey super inspection and their stores of honey were 👌🏻. They built 20 frames of foundation-less comb this spring/summer/fall. I have Italian bees and they are prolific honey producers so no shock there. They do have some cons as far as pest management and winter hardiness go but we will see how they navigate winter this year.
Also, so many have asked. I love my @flowhive so far but I haven’t had the patented honey 🍯 super on yet as I was never planning on harvesting honey this year. I will keep you posted on that. However, I do love the cedar brood boxes flow provides. They will last a very long time and they are very aesthetically pleasing which matters to me in such a small urban garden. I’m really looking forward to using the super because again, we live in an urban setting and our space is limited. We don’t have room for all the traditional honey extraction equipment.
Happy Saturday, y’all! 😊

Love to see newly planted LARGE sycamores. There are many reasons why I love this neighborhood but the tree lined streets are in the top 3!
