Jihad (from Wiki):
• -Ibn Taymiyyah said in Al-Furqan PP:
A man asked [the Prophet]: "...and what is Jihad?" He replied: "You fight against the disbelievers when you meet them (on the battlefield)." He asked again: "What kind of Jihad is the highest?" He replied: "The person who is killed whilst spilling the last of his blood."
This seems to leave little doubt as to how Muhammad understood jihad. There are many hadith on jihad, and they make its meaning quite clear. First and foremost, jihad meant combat on the battlefield, and specifically against non-Muslims.
