When I first started out, the name DJ Shub represented my love for turntablism and the culture of hip-hop and electronic music that shaped me. The "DJ" was a tribute to my roots—where it all began. But over the years, I’ve evolved as an artist. It’s become more than just DJing; it’s about storytelling, blending cultures, and honoring the deep connection I have to my Mohawk heritage.
So today, I’m stepping forward under a new name—Shub.
Dropping “DJ” isn’t about leaving anything behind; it’s about embracing the full scope of who I am as an artist. It’s not just about the technique or performance anymore, it’s about the message, the story and who I am as an electronic Indigenous artist.
Along with this change comes a new symbol—one that represents my journey. My new logo pays homage to my Mohawk heritage with the Thunderbird, a powerful symbol of protection, strength, and transformation. The circular design is a nod to the vinyl records that first inspired me, tying together the past, present, and future of my sound.
I can’t wait to share this next chapter with you all. There is so much more to come…
New era. Same energy. Let’s go.🔥
Love,
Shub.

For over a decade, Shub (formerly known as DJ Shub) has been at the forefront of a movement that reshaped the landscape of Indigenous electronic music. A trailblazer who coined the powwow-step genre and a former member of the JUNO-winning A Tribe Called Red, Shub has spent years blending the ancient rhythms of powwow music with the pulse of modern beats, scratching, and bass-heavy production. With a new name and vision, Shub is stepping beyond the DJ booth—emerging as a composer, storyteller, and artist dedicated to expanding the read of Indigenous music.
With his upcoming album Heritage, he is making a statement—not just about where he’s been, but about where Indigenous music is headed. While his signature sound was built around the 140-BPM pulse of dubstep, Heritage expands his sonic palette, weaving in hip-hop, ‘90s-era IDM, dub-infused trip-hop, and even the heavy bass of drill.
