31: Yale. And finally we arrive at the last entry in #chimayra. I finished it! It only took a year lol. The Yale was first described by Roman scholars as an animal the size of a hippo, with an elephant's tail, a goat's legs, a boar's mouth, and long horns that could either rotate or twist at will. It was later adopted by medieval scholars and herolds, often portrayed as white with large spots, but the "original" was black.

30: Wasgo. Probably the chimera I was least familiar with before this excercise. The wasgo or seawolf is a wolf-orca hybrid featured in stories from Haida Gwaii, an archipelago off the coast of eastern Canada, particularly the myths of the Haida people. Most depiction gives it the head and front legs of a wolf and two dorsal fins for some reasons (killer whales normally only have one).

29: Tygre. Alternatively known as the tyger or the heraldic tiger, the tygre is an odd beast in medieval European iconography. Potentially being a misguided descriptipn of an actual tiger, the tygre looked like a speckled lion with a wolf's head adorned with a horse's mane and a strangely bent horn or tooth, almost creating a beak.

This is one of the best animated shorts I've seen and it only has just over 200 views after four days. Criminal!

28: Skoffín. This Icelandic beast is just on the line of what we would normally consider to be a chimera as it, much like the glashtin, is described a a vague mix of two animals rather than with specific bodyparts from specific animals.

The skoffín was described as the offspring of a female tabby cat and a male arctic fox. It was born with its eyes open and would gradually grow up to be more fox-like, but with much shorter fur that nevertheless changed with the seasons (I chose the rare blue arctic fox variant in order to get some, well, variety in this series). It was much more dangerous than any of it's parents, with eyes that killed anything it gazed at.

Similar as with the many big cat- or equid hybrids, the opposite parentage would produce a slightly different monster known as the skuggabaldur, a not as dangerous offspring born to a vixen impregnated by a tomcat.

27: Scylla. Another chimera with sometimes contradictory descriptions, but they always include several heads, some of dogs, some of women, as well as several legs, most of which are rudimentary. Scylla was originally a water-nymph who was cursed with this shape, so I thought it would look best if the woman aspect took centre-stage, almost making her look like a monsterous mermaid, which is another common depiction. She was one of two beasts in Greek mythology known to lurk in the strait between Sicily and the Calabrian coast where she would snatch sailors of their ships with her many long-necked hoeads.

26: Piasa. Another chimera that out of context almost feels like a chimera of several chimeras, particularly the manticore and the mishipeshu. Part of this is that it has been reported in different ways in different tines, despite it seemingly still being the same creature. The most all-encompassing description gives this massive dragon-bird a man's face with large teeth and a terrifying expression, the beard of a tiger, a feathered hide, large wings, deer antlers and a finned tail several times longer than its body. All cast in red, black and green.

The creature is only really associated with a specific Algonquin region around the Mississppi river in the American state of Illinois.

25: Parandrus. This is a lesser known chimera from medieval European bestiaries. It's one of those rare beast that were reported to live far away from main Europe and that know one had ever seen but somehow knew a lot about. Today it's believed to actually be a reindeer, as it was described with the head of a stag, but with the bulky body of an ox and fur of a bear. This fur was heavily sought after but rare, as it had the ability to change colours, making the beast a master at hiding from hunters.

24: Nue. The nue shares a lot of interesting simularities with chimeras like the bonnacon, manticore and, well, the manticore. Though it seems to have developed separately from those stories, in Japan. It was described as having the body of a raccoon dog, with the legs of a tiger and the head of both a monkey (here the Japanese macaque) and a snake, which also serves as its tail. It's main attack was a poisonous cloud it could produce that was so thick it could float on it.

This is the moat famous depiction anyway, there are others but I couldn't resist drawing a chimera with deadly farts lol.
