A recent lawsuit against the NBA tackles the application of the Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA)—a law originally created in 1988 to protect VHS renters. This case highlights the shifting boundaries of consumer privacy in the digital age.
The Second Circuit Court has revived the case, questioning whether newsletter subscribers qualify as “consumers” under the VPPA. If you’ve ever signed up for a free newsletter and shared personal data, this case could impact how your information is protected!
