Just a heads-up: my whole day tomorrow is going to be taken up with a funeral for another death in the family (my daughter's father-in-law). That probably means there'll be no Quickie this week as I don't have any saved up. We'll see about later in the week. The AMA will post tomorrow, but I'm not sure about anything else.

Happy Public Domain Day!
Now that it's #PublicDomain Day 2024 and #MickeyMouse is PD, I have to say that it should be obvious to everyone that copyright has gotten absolutely ridiculous. We should go back to a copyright term of 28 or even the original 14 years.
It used to be the case that a new creation could become PD within one's own lifetime; that was the period of our greatest creative outpouring, where Disney used fairy tales, Universal used horror novels such as Dracula and Frankenstein, etc., resulting in a heyday.
During this time, it was hardly the case that no one wanted to write new novels or create other new IP. They didn't seem to care at all about whether or not they'd still have a copyright 70 years after they die!
But now what? We're inundated with stale, uncreative, and insultingly pandering remakes and reboots as they try to squeeze every last drop out of their IP. Meanwhile, genuinely creative writers and directors are pushed out of the way, and indies have never had it worse.
The Constitution makes it clear: copyright is NOT for enriching creators or rewarding their hard work. It's, "To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts." Is what we're seeing truly progress?
Let's have artists, authors, and filmmakers today have the same opportunities as their progenitors. Return the maximum term of copyright to 28 years or the death of the creator, whichever comes first.

Finally able to sit down and do the podcast prep. There's been a LOT going on, starting with my uncle breaking his foot (so soon after my aunt died!) and so the rest of us are pitching in while he's unable to drive anywhere. Now, my mother's broken her hip (clean break, not bad, simple surgery), and that'll put her in rehab for a few weeks. So now there's even fewer of us with a lot more to do. And all of this with the holidays coming up!
So, yeah, videos were sparse last week and may be sparse next week. Perhaps I can get a morning together to record three or four in a row to schedule out, but I don't know when bigger videos like a Lord Killian video will be coming; I'd also like to do a video on Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which is going to be a LOT of research and writing. It certainly won't be out as soon as I'd like.
