I'm proud to introduce Ephrata Valley Railroad's Maintenance-of-Way (MOW) hi-rail fire engine #1, a 1971 American LaFrance (ALF) 1000 series pumper. This old Model Power/Playart 1/87 fire truck (before photo = 2) was fully customized by me, and demonstrates the most intricate brush painting on a small model I've ever done. The EV deserved a "true" HO-Scale classic fire truck as opposed to Matchbox or Hotwheels, which means all 3 of the other fire trucks I made will be retired. The ALF will be my Ephrata Valley RR's number 1 MOW fire engine from here on out.

Yesterday, I refurbed my Matchbox "Extending Ladder Truck" that I first customized 2 years ago (2nd photo.) Thanks to some very fine brushes, I hand-painted tons of new details including: all red wheels, headlights/turn signals & emergency lights, white utility doors with inspiration from Matchbox, and more! I even made a micro "LTI" logo on the front of the aerial ladder, as the Matchbox ladder truck undoubtedly took its design from the real Oshkosh/LTI Streamliner ladder truck first made in the late 1970s (this Matchbox was introduced in the '80's.) I'm very proud of how my Ephrata Valley RR MOW ladder truck turned out, and it will continue to be seen on my train layout (even more often now!) I think my skills at fine-detail painting HO-Scale vehicles is improving. 👍

I refurbed my Ephrata Valley RR Maintenance-of-Way fire engine, that I first made 2 years ago (2nd photo.) Last year, I stripped and repainted it, which was a major improvement (3rd photo.) Fast forward to 2024, where I hand-painted new details, such as yellow drafting pipes on the driver's side, orange on roof lights, chrome in the middle of the lightbar, and the "2." I also made new hi-rail gear for it. #2 is now going to be the number one fire truck in the EV MOW fleet, and is my ultimate custom Hotwheels Fire Eater - one of my favorite Hotwheels of all time.

Today I finished these 3 hand-painted 1/87 scale pickup trucks for my Ephrata Valley RR Maintenance-of-Way (MOW) team. From L to R = 1980s Chevy Silverado, 1960s Ford F250, & 1960s Chevy C10. Last year I spray-painted these 3D printed trucks - from "Madaboutcars" on Shapeways.com - with plans to finish them in the winter sometime. I'm very proud with how well these turned out, considering I've only painted a handful of HO-Scale vehicles so far and it's challenging. These EV MOW trucks have already been placed on the layout in various spots.

Recently I finished two 3D-printed pickup trucks for my Ephrata Valley RR's Maintenance-of-Way (MOW) team - a 1969 Ford crew-cab and 1958 Chevy Apache. I'm really surprised these turned out so well; it took a lot of small detail painting!
I bought ten 3D-printed trucks from "Madaboutcars" on Shapeways.com, and look forward to finishing more for EV MOW.

Introducing Ephrata Valley Railroad's "CF7" #437 - a kit bashed diesel that happens to also be the very first EV diesel I've fully customized. Based off real railroad wreck rebuilds, CF7 #437 combines the cab of a Tyco Alco C430 with the body of a Tyco F7 - in legend #437 was built in the EV Shops, when an Alco cab was fitted on a damaged F7's front end which had been deemed too wrecked to repair. And yes, CF7 #437 is powered.

So, last year I came across a Rivarossi 2-10-2 steam loco that had been previously customized -- decals on cab and different bell attached to smokebox front, as well as the black on the boiler railings. I knew it was my only chance to customize a Rivarossi 2-10-2 for the EV, as I would never attempt this on a normal model. After finding a Vanderbilt tender at a train show for cheap, the project sat for a long while, until I finally painted and finished it last week. Welcome the current largest steam locomotive in the fleet, Ephrata Valley 2-10-2 #66, in legend purchased from the B&O to replace aging steamers in the EVRR fleet in the late 1950s.
