Quick update: We’re about 15 miles inland from Tampa, so we’ll be impacted by Hurricane Milton. 🥺 Thankfully, we’re NOT in an evacuation or flood zone, and our house meets Florida’s hurricane building codes so we won’t be at risk of storm surge. We considered evacuating due to the storm’s unpredictability, but all hotels have been fully booked since Monday. Our hotel option is also pretty limited too since our parents’ big dog is reactive due to his childhood trauma getting bitten by off-leash dogs. Plus, traffic is chaotic, and there are many empty gas stations now.
After weighing the options, my family (including my parents, my brother, the dogs and I) has decided to stay put. It wasn’t easy, but maybe staying will be safer than risk getting stuck in traffic or running out of gas when the storm hits. All of our neighbors are staying too, even hosting evacuees from nearby evacuation zones. With so many people on the roads, it would be impossible for the highways and the system to handle if everyone in this densely populated area tries to evacuate. It’s crucial to leave space for those who truly need to evacuate and for emergency vehicles. So, we’re listening to the authorities and staying put, making sure we’re one less family on the road needing gas, food, and accommodation.
I won’t lie it’s scary, and we’re expecting to lose power, water, and internet for a few days, possibly a week. I’ve scheduled content in advance, so if you see my posts, I might not actually be online and I most likely won’t be able to respond to your comments in the next week or so. I’ll update you on our situation as soon as I can.
2024 has been incredibly tough for us. I opened up about our challenges in my latest YouTube video. Just when we thought we could catch a break, Hurricane Helene and now Hurricane Milton are here. But through it all, we will stay strong and come out of this stronger than ever. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you! ❤️🙏🏻
