Beat Saber player. Former Rank #1 in the World.

Bandoot's video on why he stepped down as a full-time Beat Saber content creator inspired me to finally give you guys a long overdue post into why I stopped uploading (or even playing the game).

Long story short - I felt there was no further direction to go for me in playing Beat Saber. I achieved essentially everything I ever wanted to achieve in Beat Saber, then did it multiple times again to prove it to myself. So why bother playing still?

I'm a really goal oriented person and I like to set myself concrete, and also flexible goals. First, Beat Saber was a fun game to play, I've been playing since release and goofing around on the leaderboards was fun. Shortly after, the BSMG was created and as many of you may know, I've been on that staffing team for a significant period of time (almost since its inception). As the game grew, I found myself wanting to do more and more - experimental modding (that I never released), making sabers (this one kinda sucked the life outta me for a while 😆), making maps (this one was fun, if creatively draining a touch - I still think about mapping very frequently, but it's been months since I touched it now), hosting tournaments (Summer Saber Stars, and Beat Saber Invitiational were both very enlightening experiences, and taught me so much), playing and winning in tournaments (the golden run in the Captain's Banquet Tournament was awesome), and finally, being a top player.

For a significant period of time, I floated around the top 10 - probably for over six months from the launch of ScoreSaber ranking, and in that period of time I hit Rank #1 three times. For one last hurrah, after the Accuracy Campaign came out, the last goal I set for myself was to hit Legend rank, which I did in just over two months of hard grinding. Realistically, the Captain's Banquet Tournament was my last major personal accomplishment, even though I'd won tournaments before (BSWT, way back in 2018).

After all of that, I felt kinda... aimless? When you've achieved all of your personal goals, you really have nothing to push yourself towards, so I was playing the game... playing the game... and kinda just playing the game. The game itself was still fun, but the competitive, and goal-oriented part of me had had its last chapter already, and I was just uploading videos of decent scores I got in the meantime. Around early March 2021, I finally stopped playing the game. It's been over a year and a half now, but I couldn't have enjoyed my time in Beat Saber more.

Thank you all for watching my videos - it is exceedingly unlikely that I return, I very rarely think about the game anymore, though I do think of it fondly, and still occasionally interact with the wider community. Some of you who follow me on Twitch or are in my Discord server will know that I stream other games very occasionally, but I won't be streaming Beat Saber either. I still meet people in VRChat who recognise my name sometimes, and it's a very humbling experience every time. Just one last time, thank you all.

Just wanted to give a shoutout to the NALULUNA Channel! They make some of the funniest Beat Saber videos around, and are an amazing modder!

Apologies for the lack of videos! I've been busy and dealing with motivation issues, but I've got a new form of motivation (qualifying for the UK team for the Beat Saber World Cup, and maybe playing in the World Cup), so videos will be coming again, starting tomorrow!

What type of Beat Saber content are you guys more interested in?

Note that I try for Full Combos where I can (like the Everything will freeze play uploaded a few weeks back or so), but Full Combo-ing more mainstream songs is much much more realistic than FCing harder songs like EWF.

Of course, I will still upload both kinds of content, just favouring one over the other.

I've been getting quite a fair share of questions that can be answered in an FAQ, so here goes:

Q) How?
I've played the game since release, and was one of the first to achieve rank 1 in the game, but have since taken playing a lot less seriously as of a few months ago. Basically, practice.

Q) Grip?
I use RK Grip: i.redd.it/8ee8zu4d6ii21.jpg (also my picture, lol)

Q) VR System?
I currently use the Oculus Rift CV1.

Q) Camera view of you playing?
I have some old videos which have a camera view of me while playing, but I may upload videos in the future which also have a camera view.

Q) Sabers?
I use any of these at any given time: SnowResortPro, SpaceOpera, Twist Sabers V3, VProSabers, Oldschool Default, or Tesla Sabers.

Q) How many tries did it take you to FC Reality Check Through The Skull?
It took me ROUGHLY 4-6 hours, I don't quite remember, but I had a LOT of 1-miss runs.

Q) Can you play [x map/song]?
I don't usually ever take requests from comment sections, though I may if I recognise the mapper. Occasionally, I'll stream on YouTube and will take requests then.

Q) You missed but the combo didn't reset?
Replays (using ScoreSaber) can have the occasional bug since replays are not perfect, this includes "ghost misses", which are misses that do not occur outside of replay (i.e, in actual gameplay). There's also the >100% score bug (this occurs at the start of a play, and can also show a combo of 1 when no notes have spawned) - this resolves on its own throughout the play.

Q) Are you buff from Beat Saber?
No, actually, I haven't noticed any *significant* muscle growth, but it has toned my muscles somewhat.

Q) You must have insane reaction times!
I actually have very average reaction times, according to the fancy reaction times websites. It's all about learning to read notes quickly, rather than actually reacting.

Q) Are your arms sore from playing?
Over time, this feeling goes away unless you're stressing yourself in game. Many maps I play are not too stressful for me, the ones I upload tend to be at the end of the session, as a one-off.

Thank you all for watching my videos, and interacting! I very much appreciate it all!
