As I mentioned several weeks back, I'm now the content manager for rentals.ca, and have been doing a bunch of data dives on the Canadian rental market. Here's the latest video I made for them, around rents and vacancy rates in Halifax, which turned out to be a much more fascinating topic than I anticipated at first.
Their proprietary dataset on rental listings is pretty deep, so if you've got a tricky question on what's going on with rental properties in Canada, throw it in the comments. If you want to see even more of my gruesome mug talking at you than you do right now, you can also follow Rentals here, on IG, or Tiktok.

So, in a major time crunch this morning, I wrote and recorded a video before I left for a work trip, but it turns out the mic was muted, and I didn't bring any of my gear on the road with me. You think I should dub it and have weird audio/video sync, or just scrap it entirely?

If you've been hankering for some MM and/or housing content, the housing crisis video I was a collaborator on with The Goose Media was just released this morning: https://youtu.be/fVgOQvkmlh8?si=Hpbpt...

I'm not dead I'm just working on a long video. For people missing the Friday Updates: inflation is up a little bit, unemployment is up a little bit, nobody is happy. We'll need to see this month's data before we have a good idea whether the BoC will cut or hold at the end of the month. My current guess is hold but WHO THE HECK KNOWS.

I was thinking today, I get asked a lot about various stories that are floating around social media and whether or not I'm going to cover them - a notable recent example is the "1 in 4 Canadians are living in poverty" story. There are a lot of stories that I don't bother with because I think they're irrelevant, misinterpreted, or otherwise not of the quality that I want to include in my update videos - would you be interested in an occasional "Dubious News" video where I go through some of those stories, why I ignored them, and my thought process in separating the signal from the noise with this kind of stuff?

I was recently on the Canadian Real Estate Homefront podcast discussing how we're all kind of screwed. Check it out here: https://youtu.be/pVrKsG90KMo?si=XWDVn...

I was recently on the Tom Storey Show to discuss all sorts of real estate questions like: What's going on with housing in Canada? How do we fix it? Is your house a boot? Can you live in a boot? Let's find out: https://youtu.be/pivQ-i1lAiw

So like I said in my last video, I'm considering switching the format up a bit and doing deeper dives on single topics, but I don't think I have time to do that in addition to Friday Updates - is the weekly news digest format important to you, or is it more the analytical angle you're here for? Inquiring minds want to know.
