On January 10, 1943, the Soviet Red Army launched a massive offensive against the German Sixth Army, which had been besieged in the city of Stalingrad since November 1942. This operation, codenamed Ring, was the final stage of the Battle of Stalingrad, one of the bloodiest and most decisive battles of World War II.

The Soviet army began to squeeze the German pocket, using artillery, tanks, and infantry. The Germans resisted fiercely, but their situation was hopeless. They were running out of ammunition, food, fuel, and medicine. Many of them were wounded, sick, or frostbitten. The Soviet army offered them a chance to surrender, but Hitler forbade it. He promoted Paulus to field marshal, implying that he expected him to fight to the death or commit suicide, as no German field marshal had ever been captured.

Are you an expert in classic movies?

What is the name of the song that was composed by Henry Mancini for the movie Charade, from 1963, with Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn and Walter Matthau?
