So much talk about podcasts, sharing my experience here.
We started our family podcast on a whim, with no plan, no direction, no script, no producer, no experience, no equipment and best of all, no rules about what any of us could say out loud.
FIFTY episodes later, weāre inundated with inquiries for partnerships, sponsorships, to cover āon-the-goā events, on how to advertise on our pod (itās very hard - so hard, we havenāt done it yet!), on requests to collab and more. Today, we all know the power podcasts hold.
Iām writing this post because back when we started it, so many people thought we were crazy. Making fun of podcasts in general was the norm and we ourselves had no clear vision, except to know that we wanted to serve our community more and in better ways - anything to bring families together in joy.
The @zarnagargfamilypodcast is so rustic, low budget, low production value, chaotic, unhinged (real life drama of 5 very busy people trying to come together) and yet - it is changing lives (believe it)- many many many families watch our episodes and have their own difficult discussions - weāve helped kids come out of the closet, any number of teens talked to their parents about sex for the first time, nyc schools are streaming our bits to show easy ways to chat w family and many rejoiced in the positivity of of Diwali at the White House episode.
Our inboxes are overflowing with love. Somehow, without saying much, Shalabh is the star??? Iāll have to look into this.
All this and weāre just getting started.
Moral of the story is ātake that riskā if you want. who cares if they laugh, if you obsess over serving your audience/client/customer, you will win one way or another.
Shout out to my friend and queen of podcasts Hannah Berner who told me to not overthink it and just chat with the fam ā¦ I hope Iām paying it forward by encouraging others to take whatever their next step is.
For those who are wondering - itās not too late to get in! Get started now!

You heard it here first people - my movie A Nice Indian Boy Film is gonna blow people away next year. The sleeper monster hit that no one saw coming.
100% on Rotten Tomatoes and review after review say the same thing - this gem is the movie to watch out for in 2025
I am beyond grateful to my two gay sons @goatdonkey1 and @itskaransoni on Instagram for bringing me on this project and helping me see that art is worth creating - some, not all - donāt get too excited.
And big thank you to the entire team, even the annoying ones who kept hogging the heater in the barn for patiently teaching me the ropes, the moves, the lines, the strokes and more.
Iām so sad that Iām not with the team at the festivals, but Iām feverishly working on another project so that when this movie comes out, my brand has grown more and can leverage more heat to this most deserving story and team. Movie making is a tough business and you have to be strategic to pull off wins.
In my first movie, my director is a real life brilliant doctor and my son is an unbelievably talented actor playing a doctor. His inner hesitation and extremely nuanced performance is going to land him in every ābest ofā list - itās inevitable.
As Iām a demanding mother and wife expecting the moon from my family - Iām proud to say that I expect A+ work and projects only of myself also and boy does this movie deliver!
Canāt wait to share it with you all - let the countdown begin!

Iām a proud and successful Indian business executive - I keep my bindi on everywhere I go because people should know success comes in all shapes and sizes.
For far too long women, brown women, people with an accent, people who wear āweirdā clothes, have different preferences and more have been pushed around and underestimated - no.more. Not on my watch.
Watching a sea of people, Indian and not, women and not, straight, gay, binary, young and old turn up in bindis, kurtas, churidaars, salwars everywhere I go is the twist I did not see coming in my comedy career.
The biggest of brands and businesses are starting to take note of our power, our influence, our existence and Iām cautiously optimistic.
With warm but firm resolve, itās time to acknowledge that thereās a new sheriff in town and itās time to set things right.

I turned the pain of leaving India into a traveling culture show long before stepping on any stage
For FIFTEEN years I went from school to school and class to class telling the story of bindi, diya, lights, the joy of Diwali, the heartbreak of Sita (many, many panicked teachers had to cut me short š¤£)
Teachers at my kids school used to say itās not Diwali until Mrs Garg shows up with the stories (and snacks and goody bags and sparklers and stickers and henna and the list was endless)
We always ended with an energetic Bollywood dance circle with music from my pal Karanās movies. I would painstakingly explain lyrics (sometimes happiness, sometimes sad) and teach kids a step or two so we could have a big broadway style finish (in my head!)
I drove myself crazy explaining to them parallels between Vande Mataram (national song of India) and The Star Spangled Banner (US anthem) and quizzing them, naturally
Wrangling little kids attention felt so much harder than any comedy show where people pay money to focus on your words and have been liquored up to assist with the laughs.
I get asked all the time whether I get nervous while performing stand up - comedy shows feel like kindergarten compared to being in a classroom filled with screaming five year olds and working to keep them hooked onto every word.
Moms work harder than anybody else and often we donāt even know that weāre topping the scales of grinding. We kinda just do it.
I hope my story inspires every mother to look within, to reflect on her true passions and find her calling. Youāre probably already doing a lot of what youāre meant to be doing on earth.
About 10 years after these photos were taken, my all-American mini-me, Zoya Garg, would point out - mom, no one cares about the toothbrush you give away, itās the stories
Here with Zoyama and her five or six year old buddies - they look about as thrilled as my mother in law looks when Iām doing something with her.
