The recent resurgence of vinyl has been largely led by artists from the LP era. As the following chart, based on Nielsen data, shows, all but one of the ten best vinyl-selling acts in the U.S. in 2018 were big before the guy who invented Spotify was even conceived.

How many of the ten artists do you have vinyl records in your collection?

Song of the day: Muddy Waters - Mannish Boy

Hard Again was Muddy Water's massive comeback album of 1977, opening up with the one song that cemented Muddy's place in Rock & Roll heaven: "Mannish Boy". This blues standard features a repeating stop-time figure on one chord throughout the song. Johnny Winter ecstatic 'Yeah!'s can be heard on the track. In 1986, the song was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame "Classics of Blues Recordings" category.

The Many Sounds of the Blues

While the blues haven’t been around as long as some other forms of music, the history of the blues is a rich and fascinating story. Some say that the Blues originated from mysticism surrounding the Indigo plant which was used in West African cultures during death and mourning ceremonies. There is also a legend that Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil at Crossroads to achieve his success and become King of the Delta Blues.

RECORD STORE DAY IS SOCIAL DISTANCING!

2020 is different. So what we're doing this year is going to be different too.

No one knows what kind of party we'll all be in the mood for, or able to hold safely, at any time this year, in any part of the world. So we're focusing this year not on the party aspect of Record Store Day, but on getting the great releases on the RSD 2020 List into your local record store, and then into your collection.
RSD DROPS! Three street dates when titles from The List will be available only at participating indie record stores. We're working on getting the new version of The List -- with new RSD Drops dates -- all nice and pretty for you. Look for that on the Record Store Day site on June 1.

The Netherlands was the first non-English speaking country to score a string of international hits back when pop music was still in its infant stage. Just think about Shocking Blue, Focus, Mouth And MacNeal, Tee-Set, or The Golden Earring. Of course, many more great bands and artists emerged from this country behind the dykes. Some are well known, others are true gems. Here's a selection of some of the finest Dutch artists from that era and their albums.

What is your favorite Dutch artist?
