A little history of the Golden Globes here. The Golden Globe Awards were presented annually by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) to recognize outstanding achievements in film and television, both domestic and international. It’s one of the most prestigious award ceremonies in the entertainment industry and is often seen as a precursor to the Oscars and Emmys. In 2023 HFPA was rebranded to Golden Globe Foundation.
The Golden Globes began in 1944, founded by a group of entertainment journalists. The first ceremony took place at the 20th Century-Fox studios
Initially, the awards only recognized achievements in film. Television categories were introduced in 1956.
Unlike other major awards, the Golden Globes honor achievements in two film categories: Drama and Musical or Comedy. Similarly, TV awards are divided into Drama and Comedy/Musical categories.
The iconic award is a gold globe mounted on a pedestal, symbolizing international recognition of talent.
Since 1961, the ceremony has been held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.
