Watching THE DARK KNIGHT Trilogy backwards this week. Just how life turned out. But it is an interesting viewing experience because I'm watching the story backwards, in a way.

At Winnipeg Comic Con this weekend:
The UNDEAD WORLD TRILOGY is still popular for zombie fiction. It's been 16 years since book one and people are still picking up copies and those who've read the trilogy and come by the table talk about how much they enjoyed it.

BATMAN: TAS -
Batman: Redclaw? A woman?
Redclaw: Do you have a problem with that?
Batman: Not at all. I'm an equal-opportunity crimefighter.

Day done. Finished THE PLATFORM 2 the other night. It was good. I wouldn't want to say the first was better because, in light of the films, we're comparing green apples to red ones. Super similar but a variation on the plot. A fair statement would be they're both solid as per their strengths and what they each brought to the table.

Neighbor across the street died. He was a big, tall guy so they did the best they could.

JOKER 2: Non-spoiler review.
I'm still digesting so won't give the movie a rating. Instead, this is also not your typical review. These are comments based on just-got-out-of-theatre impression, which can be subject to change upon full digestion.
So:
- The first one has to be watched because it gives context to the sequel. Without it, it won't make CLEAR sense.
- This is not an escape movie nor--as we would define it today--an entertaining one. It is not meant to be entertaining.
- It is an art film not a superhero/villain film.
- Don't listen to the reviews because it's the kind you need to see for yourself for your own opinion because the movie involves active involvement of the following three things brought up in the next point; if the reviewer lapsed in one of these three areas, you'll get a skewed review and skewed reviews are incomplete.
- This movie requires active involvement/participation in three main ways: Your eyes, your ears, your brain (the last one being the most important).
- The musical numbers were good but as they went on--I thought they could have reduced it by 3 or 4 sequences--I saw why there were as many as there were and it all added up in the end.
- The musical numbers served the same purpose as the pirate strip in Watchmen: It's a parellel narrative but this is only picked up on if you're paying attention. So this movie is giving you two stories in one.
- The subtitle is a description of the entire movie in summation so is a perfect fit.
- Harvey Dent is in it but that's not a spoiler because Todd Philips mentioned the character in interviews; there is a big Harvey easter egg, but if you blink, you'll miss it.
- There is the biggest and most clever DC easter egg I have ever seen in any DC movie effort ever and, if you catch it, you'll see how it circles the whole thing back to the first movie.
- Lady Gaga did well as Harley Quinn. But this is not the Suicide Squad Harley nor TAS nor any version we've seen thus far no differently than this Joker is different from your typical version.
- For Harley, they took the source material but turned it on its ear and put it through a new lens. One could argue this Harley is more an apt depicition of a real-world version of the character.
- The acting was solid by all involved, big part or small.
- The pacing isn't consistent; it's starts off at a good clip in the context of the movie but then slows about halfway through then picks up closer to the finish line.
- I feel bad for Phoenix because whatever he put his body through to get skinny again must have been rough. He's disturbingly skinny just like in the first. But I also commend him for the effort.
- Personal opinion is I think it would be errant to leave it at one viewing. It's multi-layered both overtly and subtly so a second viewing is suggested to give a more solid opinion/review.
- You leave with a certain feeling inside. I won't say what feeling but movies that leave feelings mean they did something right.
In the end, if you are interested, I stand by what I said above and say see it for yourself. Like the first movie, it speaks to you on different levels and since those levels are personal to each viewer, the experience is customized in that context.
If you want a general is it bad or is it good answer, my answer would be good.

Though basically the same movie three times--perhaps a cautionary tale in history repeating itself?--which BACK TO THE FUTURE movie is your favorite?
