Gripe was a New York City public access series now unearthed after 10 years and its creators, Gary Kordan and Chris von Seeger, are (semi) mortified. Gripe was "directed" by Andy Welke. You can hear him screaming in his Polish accent "camera two, camera two, where are you" to the half interested cameramen in many of the clips. Gripe was shot by Cesar and Kurt, who were more focused on their pagers than getting the shots. The producer Jamie can be heard laughing in the background when no one else was. Gripe was recorded live at 11pm on Wednesday's in the basement of ELA Studios. Don't be impressed because it was one studio, two cameras and a control room that was state of the art in 1957. Each week Chris and Gary would write a personal check for $100 which gave them two teenage cameramen, an angry Polish director who could barely speak English and a studio that had the smell of failure.
