Telling people about your business might look like ⬇️

✅ posting on social media
✅ sending an email
✅ sending a text
✅ running ad
✅ going live
✅ networking at events
✅ handing out flyers or business cards
✅ creating a blog or vlog
✅ collaborating with influencers
✅ participating in online forums or Facebook groups

Oh and in case you needed to hear it…

You can do more than one of these each day AND you could do any of these more than once per day.

And in case you haven’t realized it yet, this is called marketing.

Marketing creates a pool of people to sell to. If you’re not marketing, you aren’t creating a pool of people to sell to.

Thanks for listening to my Ted Talk.

Imagine you’re in a job interview for a high-end fashion brand and you’re asked to introduce yourself.

You likely wouldn’t say:

I’m 27 years old.
I have a cat.
I have 2 kids.
I love fashion.
I have a boyfriend.
My favorite color is red.
I want to be more confident.

This is how most boutique owners describe their target audience.

It’s important to notes that your job is to serve a real person, not one you completely made up with a bunch of vague details.

But what if you described yourself like this in the job interview. ⬇️

💎 A multi-faceted millennial interested in luxury fashion.
💎 My favorite designers are Miu Miu, Saint Laurent, and Loewe.
💎 I love the Lord and put God above everything.
💎 My background is in retail.
💎 My favorite pastimes include watching old episodes of Sex in the City, Real Housewives of Potomac and Girlfriends, self-care activities like reading a good book, getting massages and going to bed early so that I can wake up and conquer each day and work to my full potential...

That’s just a taste.

So, let’s say that is how you’d describe your audience. How could you use this information for marketing?

▪️ Your brand needs to understand what your customer considers “luxury” so that you can provide an experience that aligns with her belief.
▪️ Study the brands she likes and use their marketing as inspiration.
▪️ Consider how you can incorporate God into your marketing. Example: Faith & Fashion
▪️ Share funny stories or memes about working in retail. Example: retail worker nightmares or inside jokes
▪️ Share video clips of must-see moments from her favorite shows. Do quizzes like “which character are you?”
▪️ Use lifestyle content that mimics the lifestyle of your customer. Show your models doing the things that your customer would be doing, but in “luxury.”
▪️ BONUS: Use ChatGPT to help your write captions and product descriptions in the voice of Carrie Bradshaw. 😆

Was that helpful? If you feel like you need to get more clear about your target audience and develop marketing strategies to attract and convert them, join my program E-commerce Elementary. I‘ll show you exactly how to do it.

I always say that the first year of my business didn’t count because I had no idea what I was doing. I allowed that first year to be completely trial and error and I was fine with the outcome.

I gave myself time to learn and set lower expectations but I worked hard (almost) every single day to figure it out.

But that second year, something had to shake… and boy oh boy did it shake. 🤑

In 2019, I was barely making $1000 a month so $1000 days weren’t quite a thought.

But by the 2nd quarter of 2020 I was ready to truly start betting on myself and my abilities.

In April I made a little over $7000.
In May I made a little over $12,000.
In June I made a little over $20,000.

I gave myself a year to fail because there are lessons in failure. But once I had it figured out, there was no stopping me.

Those $20,000 months quickly became $30,000 months.

I made $100,000 from January 1 to September 10 that year.

Then I made another $112,000 from September 10 to December 31. 🙃

I was smarter and making money faster.

6-figure quarters became a norm for me.

So now I want to teach you what it took to go from making consistent sales (orders) to making consistent money.

Cause I don’t know about y’all, but I didn’t start a business to brag about the number of orders I got. I started a business to make a specific amount of money. 🙃

Email marketing is one of the most essential elements of e-commerce.

In case you didn’t know, the “e” in email and in e-commerce stands for electronic.

As an online business owner, digital marketing is your most important job and that includes email marketing. 🙃

In the digital age, your email list is pure gold! Here’s why:

1️⃣ Personalized Connection: Build genuine relationships with your customers through tailored content.

2️⃣ Boost Sales: Drive revenue with targeted promotions and product recommendations.

3️⃣ Cart Recovery: Recover abandoned carts and turn potential losses into profits.

4️⃣ Customer Retention: Keep buyers coming back with loyalty programs and exclusive offers.

5️⃣ Data-Driven Decisions: Use insights to refine your marketing strategy and deliver what your audience craves.

However, we know that not everyone gets the most out of email marketing. Here’s why some e-commerce brands struggle:

🤔 Lack of Strategy: Email marketing without a clear plan often leads to random, ineffective campaigns and little to no sales in return.

📧 Inconsistent Sending: Irregular emails mean missed opportunities to engage and convert.

❌ Ignoring Analytics: Failing to analyze data means missing out on insights to improve performance.

💤 Neglecting Segmentation: Sending one-size-fits-all emails doesn’t resonate with diverse audiences.

💌 Spammy Content: Overly promotional emails end up in spam folders, not in inboxes.

Are you struggling with email marketing? If so, join our 5-Day Email Marketing Challenge and turn these struggles into successes.

Click the link below to join the journey toward e-commerce email mastery! 💌 We start on Monday, September 25.
