On the same day Kuro was diagnosed with leukemia, he crossed the rainbow bridge.
At the very end, he didnโt struggle at all โ he passed away so peacefully,
just as if he had fallen into a quiet, eternal sleep.
Here is what happened after we returned home from the hospital.
When we got home, Kuro was able to stand but couldnโt walk.
I carried him to the back room where I could watch him closely and placed him on a cat bed.
However, perhaps because it wasnโt the familiar cat room, he kept crying out,
so I brought him to the closet in the cat room โ
a place where he had spent a lot of time these past few days and felt safe.
After that, while continuing my work, I kept searching for information about "feline leukemia" and "cancer treatment,"
checking on Kuro every 30 minutes as he rested in the closet.
At first, he was lying in the front part of the closet,
but by evening he had moved by himself to the far back.
By then, even though his ears would move slightly when I called his name,
he could no longer lift his head or make a sound.
Seeing him like that, I realized that he might not make it through the night.
I moved him to the front part of the closet where I could watch him more easily,
and about 30 minutes later, he had come out of the box on his own.
He was sitting in the narrow space by the wall, lowering his head, staring straight ahead,
breathing faintly.
Knowing that he probably wouldn't make it to the next day,
I gently moved him closer to me, placed a pet sheet under his lower body,
and started researching "palliative care" instead of life-prolonging treatments.
I found information like "forcing a cat to eat may cause distress and vomiting,"
so I decided not to force him and just stayed with him quietly.
Then, around 8:30 PM, when I entered the cat room again,
Kuro had passed away peacefully.
He hadnโt moved at all from where I had placed him.
There was urine on the pet sheet, and a little was still coming out.
His eyes were still open, and his body was still slightly warm,
but rigor mortis had already begun.
I laid him down gently in a cardboard box lined with towels and a sheet,
letting him rest peacefully on his side.
After laying him down, I checked his breathing and heartbeat again โ they had completely stopped.
Kuro will rest quietly in the back room until tomorrow afternoon,
and then I will bury him in a grave on a part of my mountain property.
He lived for 10 years and 7 months.

I am truly grateful from the bottom of my heart.
