Anyone who used to download the .blend files from my tutorials. I am very sorry. They are not anymore online.
I deleted everything from my dropbox account after I did read that dropbox started sharing files to be trained in OpenAi. (With some premise, but I decided to not wait when their premises are changing to allow all files to be used)
Dropbox was also very unreliable as a service, when they randomly changed the sharing settings etc. So I calculated, that because those are very old videos made with old Blender versions which are not anymore gaining much views, the damage is very much minimal.
Here is a 10 years old render, rendered with, I believe Blender v. 2.49 that I found from the files I got out from there. I can't remember what I was thinking, but would be cool to do this concept again with better quality. :)
Anyways, I am hoping that you are having a great Christmas time. :)

Someone asked me long ago if I would go to this forest at winter time and record a video there. I went there, walked roughly the same path and it was very hard to walk in this deep snow. And I recorded this little bit of a pointless video about the place during winter and compared the place with the old video that I made at that autumn. Now I'm afraid to release it, cause I don't know if there actually is anyone who would be interested of such video. If someone wants to see it, I can upload it here after Christmas and if no one is interested, I can spare you from it. :D Just let me know. :)
Anyways, happy Christmas everyone! :3

Just want to notify everyone that now there is a huge discount in Escape motions shop, which allows you to get for example Rebelle 5 pro with 10 $ (old price 136 $). I don't know how long this discount will go on, so if you're even bit into digital painting and you want to have realistic simulated oil / water painting effects, then this could be useful for you. :)

I have to say it. It's been quite long when I last time tried to do anything meaningful with Blender. I feel like that I am slowly losing it... Mostly because I didn't get into the school I tried to. Also, I've been thinking this maybe little too philosophical ways. Something along the lines: "Who am I actually helping when I am doing these videos?" I know, obviously my subscribers, but am I actually helping, or just wasting everyone's time?
Anyways, I posted to my friend on Discord a video to a game called "Microsoft Flight simulator 2020". And I told him how much I like the graphics and bla bla. You know those chats. However, the surprise was big when I heard that "bling blong" from Steam. (actually can't remember how the Steam alert sounds). The message said:
"You've received a gift: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020". I don't know what I've done to have such great friends.
So I've now been flying and doing digital tourism around the world very much. I've learned so many new and inspirational ways to crash my plane - always in new landscapes. Thank you Daniel, from bottom of my heart.
So, because I've wasted now so much time in playing, I decided that I can also record some videos about the game and started a little mini series on my other channel about flight simulator tourism. Basically just flying, looking info from Wikipedia and google street view and trying to make some sort of a story of all that in video format.
If that's something you would be interested, here is my video about Russian Karelia. *The video contains some though themes, because of our history, but it's one what makes history so interesting, I think. Looking the history makes you understand and care more.

Ahh, is it ok guys, that I upload soon a video that is around 2 hours.... I made coffee beans, but I cannot figure out how to make it shorter even when I though it's supposed to be a shortie. :(

Metropolia University Of Applied Sciences.
I tried and failed to get into that school to learn more in depth 3d-modeling and animation. They are the kind of university that is requesting people to do pre-assignments for them and they are going to select from those who are going to get into the entrance exams.
And from those who get into the entrance tests, they are going to select some who are having a place in that school.
So this year the pre-assigment tests were these: (roughly translated into English from Finnish):
1.
Two friends are having a train trip into Europe. Their idea is to earn some money by performing street music. That's why both of them are having their own instruments with them. The instruments however are not traditional. Instead they designed and manufactured their instruments by themselves and all of the design choices are just pure fantasy.
Design and Show both of the instruments in one A4 paper with technique of your choice. So you can use any technique you want to. 3d-modeling, painting, photographing sculptures or mix different techniques.
2.
The friends are using train to travel from city to city. They choose the cheapest tickets in sleepers that are for 6 personnels. Going into the cabin and climbing into the beds generated some problems, because of the bulky instruments. Create 3-4 images series of their problems in train. No texts allowed. You can use any technique you want to. 3d-modeling, painting, photographing sculptures or mix different techniques.
Here is an image of both of those A4:s, I created and send them. I felt quite much pressure while creating those, because I had to design and rig both of those characters and their instruments and then create that whole train environment with very limited time and also get them printed with some quality printing shop and get posted before dead line. The train model especially created so much headache to me. You can't believe how laggy the scene is because of all of the materials and stuff. Working with it was a real headache and I never reached the amount of details I wanted there
I decided that my first character is going to be an old man and his friend actually is going to be that pink imaginary animal. I guess that was wrong choice or other people made way much better work than I did, because I didn't even get invitation to the entrance exams. I heard that around 200 people tried to get in and 50 was invited. They said that the quality of the pre-assignments was overwhelming this year and because of Covid-19, they couldn't send more entrance test requests. However, they requested to try again next year...
Behind the links, there is some Blender screenshots of the characters I created for them.

So what's the lesson of this blog? I guess it's that the industry is very though and if you wanna get there, you have to do much better job than these. I know it sounds hard, but it seem to be the thing now. Of course there are other schools and universities also to be targetting. Metropolia currently is the most popular Finnish school for 3d-modeling, but it's not the only one.

My Dropbox will go down soon!
I am planning to close my Dropbox account in near future. It means that all of the old download links in the old tutorial videos will go down also.
If you were planning to download anything from those links, now it might be the correct time to do so because soon the files will be offline and I cannot update the links to every video to some other cloud service which I might start using.

Why?
To every design choise you paint or model, you should be asking yourself one question: "Why would I do this?" If you don't know the answer to that, then you are making a mistake. But what makes a design choise to be good or bad?
The donut paradox
Is it ok to show something you made from a tutorial in your portfolio? Donuts?
You would get the whole community making jokes about you because of the donuts. Ok, but why it's then ok to buy assets from asset library and use those to make whole scene? No one would be making jokes of you even when that's much easier than following a tutorial.
Let's imagine that your mom made a very tasty cake. From a recipe. Then she posts an image of it to Facebook. She was just following a tutorial. Is it wrong? I think not. But why it would then be wrong to post a donut someone made from a Blenderguru tutorial?
In nutshell you would tell with the image that you are capable of following instructions. Most of the things we do are from some tutorial. You would make a character and follow some sculpting tutorial to learn the tools. Then you would follow retopo tutorial to make a low poly version and then probably a cloth tutorial for clothing and rigging tutorial etc. Then you would go and follow an animation tutorial. If you didn't do that now, you would at least use the methods you learned as newbie from some tutorial. The end result however would be absolutely nothing like in those tutorials. But you would still know what you did.
What if you made donuts without a tutorial? No one would probably know the difference, but you would still get all the same comments than the previous guy with his tutorial donuts.
The difference between your mom's cake and your donut is that donuts are digital and digital things can be copied very easily. Cakes just don't dublicate with ctrl + c.
I think it's ok to add "donuts". Even those you made with tutorial in your scene if they're not the only thing you have there and you didn't basically rip them off, but you made your own ideas into it. You can model whole bakery and have there donuts, cupcakes, normal cakes and what ever you like to, but if it's straight from the tutorial without no design choises from you, then it's basically just "ctrl + c", which is not very creative.

Let's design something! 3D-modeling with Blender, photo editing with Photoshop or Affinity photo, graphical design, photography. You name it!
Mostly I'm going to stay on 3D, but I really like to do weird videos about weird things,
so I can't for sure know what I am going to upload tomorrow. How exciting! :D
