The 70s Horror Novel Project will be reading and discussing The Manitou by Graham Masterton. There will be a live show taking about the book at the end of September or beginning of October. Date and time TBD.
Unfortunately, paperback editions of this novel are out of print and frequently expensive. The digital copies are currently $5.99 on Kindle and $6.99 on Kobo (free for Kobo plus). I've been told that some libraries carry digital and audiobook editions.
I have read this novel a few times before. It's quick, easy, and spooky. About 200 pages.
"Phony psychic and conman Harry Erskine never really believed in the occult until Karen Tandy approached him with a rapidly growing tumor on her neck, complaining of dark and disturbing dreams. When the mass is revealed by doctors to contain something living, the stakes skyrocket - not only for Karen and Harry but for all humanity.
Something terrible is returning from the shadows to which it has been confined for centuries - a Native American monstrosity determined to destroy every vestige of the white race that oppressed and preyed upon America’s Indians. And unless a motley group of ill-prepared defenders can harness an ancient native magic, there will be no stopping the malevolent shaman’s terrible rebirth - and no escaping the wholesale carnage it will engender." --Amazon Description

About Gwen, In Green:
After receiving a large insurance settlement, young couple Gwen and George fulfill a dream by buying their own little island, a secluded, private paradise surrounded by a lush green landscape of plants.
What the real estate man didn’t tell them was that years earlier a tragedy took place nearby in the cool, clear pool, whose waters still hold a terrifying, centuries-old secret.
Soon George begins to notice strange changes in his wife. Always so reserved and demure, suddenly Gwen has become passionate and insatiable. And could there be any connection between her altered personality and a recent series of mysterious disappearances?

There’s only one catch: behind a strange and intricately carved door in a distant wing of the house lives elderly Mrs. Allardyce, and the Rolfes will be responsible for preparing her meals. But Mrs. Allardyce never seems to emerge from her room, and it soon becomes clear that something weird and terrifying is happening in the house. As the suspense builds towards a revelation of what really lies behind that locked door, the Rolfes will discover that their cheap vacation rental comes at a terrible cost . . .

Welcome to my channel. I’m a bibliophile who wants to talk about books. I like print, digital, and audiobooks. It’s going to be a mixed bag of books and topics because I’m a broad reader, rarely focusing on one category or genre for any length of time. There should be a healthy mix of literature, genre, and non-fiction.
