It's a warm sunny day and you're ready for a ride. The car is clean, the tank is full, and the map is open! šŸ›»

Everything is going right, until, "pop", the front left tire blows. Too much pressure.

Pressure build up can derail you from getting where you want to go. If I feel too much pressure to write a great song, I never do. When the pressure's just right, everything is smooth sailing.

So, what's the Goldilocks balance of pressure? šŸ» How do you create enough pressure for yourself to create, write, and produce great music?

I use 4 different ways to make sure my pressure is just right. I'll be sharing them to my newsletter community at 9:30am EST tomorrow. Sign up here: www.charlescleyn.com/saturday

Talk to you tomorrow,

Charles

āš”ļøHOT OFF THE PRESSāš”ļø

I took a drive with my 8-year old nephew to get his unfiltered thoughts on my new album.

Palming the steering wheel, I waited for his reaction after each song.

Unlike the polished critiques I can get from industry pros, nothing quite matched his raw reactions. His feedback ranged from the blunt, "that doesnā€™t sound like you," to the straightforward, "I donā€™t like that at all," and even, "that oneā€™s okay, I guess."

But more telling than his words were the moments he unwittingly smiled, moved, and hummed alongā€”those were the real reviews!

Musicā€™s power to evoke a feeling is what I aimed to capture in this album. Upbeat, sad, happy, and slow. Interestingly, the first single, now available, was his favourite

Listen now and tell me ā€” would it be a smile, a move, or a hum from you?

The only thing you need to get good at something is: FOCUS.

The most successful people in the world have incredible focus.

The reason focus is so valuable is because it strips away all the distraction and adds more value to your time.

What I love about focus is it gives me more power to do what I want to accomplish.

I'd like to focus on YOU. Tomorrow at 9:30m EST I'll be choosing someone from my email list to produce a song with.

šŸŽ¶ Where does a musician's heart truly belong? In the vibrant streets of a bustling city or the vast expanse of our digital world? šŸŒāœØ

Curious for more? Dive deeper with me in tomorrow's email where I share my answer: www.charlescleyn.com/saturday šŸš€

I've been on a journey, from Ottawa to LA and beyond, only to find that perhaps, 'making it' isn't tied to a place, but to the stories we tell and the connections we forge.

Blank sheet of poster paper and a sharpieā€¦ I wrote down ā€˜just keep buildingā€™ and I taped it up on our living room wall.

I had just left my job to pursue music and didnā€™t have any idea what to do, after that bliss honeymoon stage of quitting, you realize, damn, this is super tough. How am I relevant?

I was lost and thatā€™s when @anne.cleyn told me to pick up the sharpie and write down something simple I could remind myself to do every day, something I could control, not being distracted by whatā€™s around me. Iā€™ve been trying to do that ever sinceā€¦with many hiccups along the way.

After four years of dusty tape I thought it deserved a frame of its own. The plaque below, of passing one hundred thousand subscribers wouldnā€™t have been possible without the frame above it. Music is a bit more clear and I have a better idea but still, some times, I donā€™t. All I have to do though isā€¦ just keep building.

Iā€™m looking forward to the future and I hope you can find that in your career too. Thank you to everyone whoā€™s a subscriber, follower, or friend. This isnā€™t a solo journey.
