Hi all – now the moon is coming back we are concentrating on lunar and planetary imaging (and hopefully a comet!) before coming back to deep sky observing / live stacking in a week or so. Is there anything you would like us to concentrate on in our next videos? What would you like to see next?

Ideas so far are:

- Photographing the Milky Way smartphone versus DSLR
- Livestacking the Magellanic Clouds
- Planetary imaging – here, everything you read about imaging is different!
- Bringing a travel telescope to Africa

Let me know your thoughts on what we should do next!

Sneak peak: Milky Way photography in 12 minutes – no tracking and with a stock lens. Can't wait to show you how dark the skies are in Namibia and the amazing results a static camera can achieve.

We are on a quest to collaborate with talented observers and imagers. This week, we are with Barry FitzGerald, winner of the BAA Merlin Prize whose observations and research have also appeared in professional journals including Icarus, Planetary and Space Science and Lunar & Planetary Science.

He talks us through his observatory, its construction, the TEC apo refractor, Newtonian and the accessories and equipment he uses to get the best out of his set up. He leaves no stone unturned so bring your notepad as there are so many tips and advice.

It is such an honour and pleasure to meet Barry so my sincere thanks for sharing his knowledge so that we can all learn from his experience.

Video in final edits ready to publish later this week.

Sorry I have been so quiet for so long. I started a new job in the new year and my feet have yet to touch the ground! If you enjoyed the Observatory Tour video then @Mary McIntyre FRAS visited at Christmas and also has a tour of the obsy on her channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukTm3...

@Robertelliott Lang - here is the closest I can get to the Apollo landing sites, about a mile / 1.5km resolution. I'll need a bit more to see the landers themselves, mind.

Hi all - just to let you know I will upload a fresh copy of the colour-enhanced moon with better audio. Thank you for letting me know I hadn't got it right.

Who say's the moon is not colourful?

Well only if you enhance the colours and reveal the signatures of lunar surface composition ( varying amounts of iron, aluminium and titanium in the lava flows).
Amazing to be capturing planetary geology from my back garden!
Tutorial video in final edits as it is prepared for publication.

Using tripod mounted binoculars to track the dwarf planet Ceres as it transited through the Hyades. Great fun - all processing done with propelling pencil and notebook.

Awesome night in the depths of the solar system.
Saturn at dusk, Jupiter and the Great Red Spot in awful seeing, Uranus & 4 moons, Neptune & Triton, our own Moon and then the dwarf planet Ceres. All without leaving the garden!
Video in final editing ready to publish later this week showing the capture and processing – as well as the fun of being under the night sky. It would be lovely to see you there!
