Today (8 January ,2024) Supreme Court set aside the remission of 11 convicts sentenced to life imprisonment for multiple murder and gang rapes including the victims Balkis Bano during the communal riot that took place in 2002 in Gujarat.
The Supreme Court however held that the Gujarat High Court was not the appropriate government to give remission to the accused. Thereby ordering the prisoners to surrender themselves within 2 weeks.
