As a county we currently face challenges due to the level of Phosphate in our watercourses, all industries, including farming will be expected to reduce their losses proportionately.
Farm Herefordshire is here to help achieve these improvements. We are promoting good practice already taking place locally through with short videos, as well as on farm events and advice. Reducing the level of phosphate lost from farming will not only have benefits for the river, but also for farm profitability.
As every farm is different we have identified several key areas where Phosphate losses from agriculture can be reduced;
- Management of yards,
- Application of fertilisers and manure,
- Stock management near watercourses
- Buffering watercourses
- and Healthy soils
