If your struggling, read this first, the caption is more important than the photo

The On The Tools awards was massive! The time, effort & planning that went into the event must have been enormous. The room looked absolutely amazing & packed full of great people.

But, that is all I can tell you about itā€¦ because I left !

99.9% of you dont know this, I struggle massively around big groups of people. The anxiety is ridiculous, and on the night I couldnā€™t take it. I disappeared & sat in my hotel room for the rest of the night.

In utter disappointment I sat there devastated because of the opportunity I had just walked away from.

The same thing happened to me 6 years ago, I walked out of a room I really needed to be in. After that I went to work on myself, gained confidence, started to share videos of myself to the whole world, presented an event & even more uncomfortableā€¦ ran around a busy city centre recording videosā€¦

I thought Iā€™d conquered the daemon who was always sitting there on my shoulder holding me back. Not this time.

I feel totally lost, second guessing everything Iā€™ve done, that it has been a waste of time, been working on the wrong thing & trying to be someone Iā€™m not.
Do I even want Iā€™m working for, I should just quit now.

I pushed myself to far, maybe to quick, or maybe itā€™s been a mix of doing to much to quick/ at the same time. Iā€™ve not quite worked that out yet.

ITā€™S THIS HERE! what is important

Itā€™s how you deal with it that matters.

Had I talked to someone earlier, that same night, things may have went differently. But I didnā€™t. What I did do was get upset & beat myself up for hours which solved absolutely f**k all.

Something was broken for me that night and needed to be fixed.

I started to think rationally & re listen to conversations Iā€™ve had in the past when asking for help.

Before the episode, I tried speaking with some people at the beginning of the night, some conversations went great others were rude, uninviting & lasted seconds. That definitely didnā€™t help.

I was asking the wrong questions rather than realising what I already know, which is they are the wrong people for me. Itā€™s not me that changes for them itā€™s the company I put myself in which needed to change.

There was 500+ people there to do that, but it didnā€™t work out that way did it, it took being by myself rationalising & remembering past conversations Iā€™d had when I struggled.

I dont know if this is making sense up to now, Iā€™m just blurting it out.

By just speaking it, it HELPS !
Which is the MAIN POINT of my message here.

I was lucky to have a good friend with me to share the excruciatingly long drive home with & talk about it through the early hours while I drove us home. Maybe not how they envisioned the night ending, on such a sad note & being ditched on the night but nevertheless they stuck it out/ listened & helped me through it until we got back to the north east at around 7:30am

I go to sleep, wake up & Iā€™m still down so I make a call. Itā€™s hard to make that call & break down, but I always know at the end of that phone number theres someone there who never judges me & always brings me out the other side.

Iā€™ve not went into massive detail about my problem, the detail is irrelevant.
The relevance is the pain & irrational thinking. The giving up before even trying to fix it.

Itā€™s the message Iā€™m writing which counts !

And that is talking, especially men. We often bottle it up because ā€˜thats how youā€™re supposed to be, youā€™re a man, just get on with it.ā€™

But a kettle only boils for so long before itā€™l blow. Itā€™s learning to be aware that your kettle is about to blow & that you need to change something to stop that happening.

For me I had to remove myself from the environment that caused the problem, that could have been temporary had I have spoken sooner. I slowed down the boil, but then being left with my own thoughts I ended up letting the kettle blow.

Now this might just be a small problem compared to others who are facing far greater issues, itā€™s not the comparison that matters, what matters is voicing the issue before it blows.
If you let it blow there is no coming back from it, the damage is already done.

So listen, if youā€™ve read this far I want to ask one thing of you, that is to share this with someone who needs to hear this.

This post is for you reading this. I struggle all of the time and often solve the problem because of what Iā€™ve learned in past conversations, this is one of the times when I didnā€™t.

I failed & thatā€™s ok, because we only grow by failing & learning from that lesson of failure.

I knew what would help me (talking to someone) and now my kettle isnā€™t on the boil.

This may be a poor example, but if I can speak this to my audience of over 150,000 people, (which believe me isnā€™t easy to open up & leave my self vulnerable like this)

Then you, can pick up the phone and make the call for help. On the other end of that number, someone is waiting, genuinely desperately to help you get through what ever it is youā€™re going through.

They are so many people that want to help & Iā€™l list a few at the end.

Part of the On The Tools awards was raising awareness for project 7000, the lost city that could have been built had 7000 trades people chose to talk about their problems rather than take their own lives.

Construction workers all over the country & worldwide are supporting the campaign, they are supporting you & what ever it is youā€™re going through. Construction workers have the stigma of hard arses, in actual fact we are not. We all feel pain & that is 100% fact and the support shown is proof of that.
Ā£16,000 was raised by the construction workers in 4 hours at On The Tools Awards, let that sink in & realise how much your actually not alone

So in ending this, if youā€™re still with me please share this with someone who needs to hear this.

Everything in life is temporary, that pain, sadness, feeling lost & not knowing what to do, thatā€™s temporary. It will pass, and having the right tools helps it pass quicker.

We got snow on The Mansion Build ā„ļøā›„ļø

What are the downsides to be being a bricklayer is something Iā€™m always asked.

This isā€¦ the weather plays a big part in the building game.

Butā€¦ we turn up anyway & find something to do.

I was always told when I was an apprentice, thereā€™s always something to do in the building game šŸ‘Š

I still stand by this šŸ‘Œ

Making change takes time, it was a long week with back & forth phone calls, textā€™s, group messages and one hell of a long day on the streets of Newcastle.

We all feel proud & honoured to be part of such an amazing & important campaign in raising awareness for suicide in construction.

Everyone involved has created the noise needed to get the wheels in motion, itā€™s time for change ā¤ļø

We teamed up with ā€Ŗ@OnTheToolsOfficialā€¬ & construction workers in 10 cityā€™s throughout the UK to make a stand & raise awareness about suicide in our industry.

7000 people in construction have taken their own lives over the last decade due to mental health issues.

Project 7k is here to support construction workers & get the help they need.

Youā€™re not alone, thousands of people face these issues & you need to know help is there.

Lets get this shared & make a positive impact ā¤ļø

6am start onsite & its pitch black āŒāš ļø We got our hands on the new Uniliteā€™s and there absolute bangers šŸ”„

We got the cl-1700, proper versatile & where there isnā€™t anything to use the magnet to fix it to, the clamp option comes into play and the 360 swivel light can be angles to where ever you need it āœŒļø at 1700 lumens itā€™s an ideal light for any situation.

I combo that light with the smaller but not to be overlooked hx-1080. 100x100mm itā€™l fit in your jacket pocket but at 1080 lumens itā€™s that bright itā€™l burn your eyes out šŸ¤£šŸ’Ŗ

The flx-125 is a small but again mighty beast! Its telescopic & small enough to get into the cavity, meaning we can keep out cavitys clean a lot easier by lighting them up šŸ¤©

Whatā€™s also class about these 3 šŸ‘†
They can be charged in the van on your way to site using a usb c charger šŸ‘Œ

Lastly we got the absolute monster, the tl-6000 šŸ”„
6000 lumens, itā€™s enough to turn night into day.
24 hr shifts anyone šŸ¤£

I love the 6000, its proper bright & youā€™ve got the options to switch through 2700k-6500k (kelvin) the measure of light colour/ intensity.
Personally I like the 2700, a warm light but insanely bright.

As always from me & Nath, Unilite gets a 10/10 šŸ’š
