Honestly so tempted to make a video showing free or one time fee alternatives to Adobe products. Receiving an email from them today saying that they were going to more than double my subscription fee sure doesn't feel good. I can see why Adobe's stock price has been getting hit so hard.

When you pay for subscriptions, you are agreeing to own nothing, in return for a much better rate than buying it outright. Adobe seems to want the best of both worlds, charging extremely high rates while also allowing you to own nothing. Sigh, a sign of the times.

Just recorded my first video for this channel in around 2 years. Wild! I'm moving to properly recording myself instead of just screenshares, so it's a brand new adventure for me. I'll be working on editing this up and will post it once it's ready. It will cover what I think makes Youtube special, and how I'll be pivoting the channel moving forward. Since the content will be in a new direction, I'll be interested to see what people think.

Alright! Now here's my chance to see if people read these and/or if they care. And by they, I of course mean you, dear reader. So if you do read this, toss a comment with an emoji that makes you feel something. Doesn't matter what it makes you feel, just that it does. Now onwards to the update. It's been a minute.

This channel has been in a form of hibernation for something like 2 years. I became burned out on making videos, and I wasn't enthused with the type of content I had been making. So, I decided to take a break and that's where the story ended. So far.

However, for the past few months I've been prepping for a re-launch! I have a proper camera for recording myself (something I've basically never done in the past because it's an additional detail to worry about) and lighting for the room I'll be in. Should be a solid 7/10 production. Nice. So on the technical side we're nearly there, I just need to install a blackout curtain in my home office as I continue to mess with getting the lighting to a point where it can be consistent video to video. It's an art / science that I don't understand well, but we'll get there.

But when it comes to the content, I haven't been a designer forever now, so my former design tutorial direction just doesn't make a lot of sense. It's hard to teach something that you haven't really done professionally in over a decade. I also explored a bunch of random tech related content, but things always felt like they just went all over the place leaving the channel fragmented when it came to who subscribed and for what reason. That can be an issue if you try to get a video you just made traction, and also was a bit stressful for me when trying to figure out what kind of videos to make. So, we're switching things up.

This channel will convert to be basically about my POV on various topics that I love to nerd out about. This way, when it goes all over the place, that's to be expected. Since my general nerdery tends to at least be somewhat consistent, if you vibe with one topic I cover, you're likely to vibe with others. I have a list of video ideas that I'll be running through once I'm up and running and we'll see how it goes. Of course if you don't like my POV or find value in it, you're not going to like this channel. Feels bad man, but that's how the cookie crumbles sometimes. My only rule to myself is that I will not be producing content based on how many views I think it will get, and I will not be producing contents on subjects that I am not genuinely interested in. I think that will help prevent burnout in the future, so long as at least some people find the videos interesting enough to listen to.

I will likely start the first video as a how we got to this point recap talking about my history, how that made me make this channel in I think 2012, and how things will be switching up. From there we'll dive into the new content style and see how it goes. Hoping to kick this all off within a month or so. Depends on how long it takes me to work up the motivation to install that blackout curtain. :)

But if you made it this far, I'm proud of you. Let me know your thoughts on the new direction in the comments if you have any. Also if you're into a particular subject right now and want to hear my POV on it, toss that in too. I can keep track of everything to turn into figure vids. Appreciate you.
