It's time for the October Photo Competition! 📸

We want you to show us your 'i care' commitment this month, so send us a photo with the 'i care' logo on display.

The competition is open to our seafarers and shore staff, and the most creative entry will be posted on our social media.

Abhishek Singh, a Deck Cadet on board NYK Demeter, sent us these stunning photos, saying: "As a sailor, I'm always in awe of the beauty of a sunset over the ocean. The colours are breathtaking and each one is unique. It reminds me of the power of nature and fills me with a sense of peace."

Columbia Group – where everything is possible.

Our story begins in 1978 and morphs into what we are today - an integrated maritime, logistics, energy and leisure services platform. We collaborate, partner and drive progress on a global scale, thriving on a project-led, can-do approach.

We are our people, who are at the front, middle and end of everything we do and whose unwavering commitment and professionalism is the central reason for our success.

We are Columbia.

⚓ Meet our Seafarer of the Month! ⚓

Captain Badri Tetemadze has been with Columbia Shipmanagement since 2002, first discovering us when our representatives visited the Batumi State Maritime Academy and conducted interviews.

When asked why he chose to stay with our company for all these years, he said: "Further decision to stay with the CSM was based on loyalty and having no reason to move on with the other company. I have felt at home all along."
His most memorable experience at sea? "That would be my very first step onboard as a Deck Cadet. It was my very first time being away from my family and my very first time when I truly realised what I had signed my life for. That impression would chase me for the rest of my life." 🚢

We asked whether the road to becoming a Captain was difficult and what advice he would give someone on the same path. "I would say it was a challenging path because there is no such instrument, or a blueprint if you like, which would prepare one to fill in the Captain's shoes. So much depends on a correct perception and lots of practicing, and one would be lucky to have a great mentor. In my case, sometimes I would find it quite hard to find good guidance onboard and would have to struggle on my own. But at the same time, I would also have a great mentorship, which would allow me to practice and learn properly to shape much-needed correct perception. So it was an equal struggle for confidence building."

Why seafaring? "Strong urge of travelling and exploring the world from early childhood definitely encouraged me to pursue seafaring. Besides, I am from Batumi. That's the capital of Georgian seafarers, so to say, and it also has had its influence."

Colleagues from the Technical department of our CSM Cyprus office recently attended training at One Tech Group, which offers electromechanical services and annual surveys in the shipping industry worldwide.

They received a demo of various equipment, including thermographic cameras, ECDIS, echosounders, stern tube seals, switchboards, power management, ICCP/MGPS, gyrocompass, and many others.

🌊 In line with the recent International Coastal Cleanup Day, our Singapore staff, along with special volunteers from AAL Shipping, embodied the day's spirit by holding a local beach cleaning event.

Thanks to their dedication, they successfully got rid of 20 bags worth of litter, including plastic bottles, cutlery, lighters and more on the East Coast Park beach, helping negate water pollution and protecting our marine environment.

In addition to the multiple beach cleanups we organise throughout the year to contribute to global efforts, we also collaborate with the AKTI Project and Research Centre, whose work addresses the critical issue of coastal microplastics in the waters off the coast of Cyprus.

CSM is proud to have taken part in the annual Cyprus Shipping Chamber Charity Beach Volley tournament with two teams: CSM Ninjas and CSM Warriors. 🏐

The finals were held on the 17th of September, and despite tough competition, our CSM Ninjas showed great spirit and placed 3rd overall.

Net proceeds from the event go to the Cyprus Association 'One Dream One Wish', which fulfils the wishes of children with cancer and related diseases. We are happy to have participated in such a worthy cause.
