Class in session: Avoiding Root Rot in DWC
I actually suggest (for those that need this) the $1 Dollar General ice packs. If you get a bunch then they can be rotated as needed.
I tried chillers when I first started growing, when they failed I used (rotating) frozen water bottles. Once the plastic degraded and bursted in the buckets I tried the same with ice packs... eventually it came down to putting an AC unit in the grow room. Now my tent exterior(s) sits around 67Β° while the interior will fluctuate but top out at 72-73Β° during summer months.
But, if you can't put an ac unit in the grow room, this is an easy and cost effective way to fight phytophthora, more commonly known as root rot.
