Chinky Eyes is a hiphop/soulful multi genre duo from Hong Kong, consisting of rapper, songwriter, “Chewy Cheetahs” and singer, music producer “Sunset Pablo.”
"You’re probably wondering, Why would any Asian individuals choose such a self-derogatory term as a name? Here’s exactly why. We want to redefine this term and give it a brand new meaning, we want to use the stereotype of Asians having small eyes as a symbol, to remind our fellow Asians to embrace our own skin color, to be proud of our rich cultural background. Yes we are fully aware of the history of how the term came by and we’ve been called by that countless times. However, it doesn’t make any sense to us, how we let one single word have so much power over us. It’s only derogatory when we let it be derogatory.
So let us be the first ones to crush all the negative power this word have over us and give it a new life. "
