We are saddened by the recent news of five bison being killed in a road accident involving two vehicles at Elk Island National Park. As many of you who follow my channel know, bison feature prominently in my videos and are always a highlight of our trips to this park.
Unfortunately, as this video link below illustrates, close calls between vehicles and wildlife are a regular occurrence that should not happen. While we were not present to witness the latest accident, it is crucial for drivers to adjust their speed based on current conditions. Just as one would not drive at high speed down a city street in fog due to the risk of hitting a pedestrian, the same caution should apply to roads in natural areas.
Please remember to remain vigilant while driving in wildlife parks. Elk Island, in particular, has a high density of animals. While we enjoy admiring these beautiful creatures and the opportunity to observe them safely from our vehicles, we fully support any measures taken to manage traffic and prevent future accidents.
