Hey everyone, hope you are all doing well. For anyone who is interested, I've started a second channel for preserving old and hard to find vinyl's and 45's. I recently went through a Burt Bacharach obsession and stumbled upon a bunch of old 45's of his that aren't available anywhere on the internet which sparked the idea for this channel. It's a very niche little hobby that I've undertaken and it's mostly music from the 50's and 60's but for anyone who might be interested in it here is the link to the channel. Thanks!

Hey everyone, I'm sad to say this but I'm gonna be taking a break from my channel for the time being. I've loved continuing to build this channel over these past few years but unfortunately I'm at a point now where I'm really starting to lose my drive and motivation to keep it going.

Initially I had made the plan to continue my channel until September 2022 and reevaluate things then and see if I wanted to keep going, but unfortunately these past few months have felt like a lot of steps backwards and no steps forward and I feel like I've reached a stand still with my channel where I don't know what else to do at this point. I doubled the amount of bonus content that I was including on my patreon page and lowered the bottom tier to $1 a month in hopes of continuing to get new patrons, but since I made those changes, my patreon page has continued to shrink and my monthly revenue has dropped to where it was 6 months ago. It doesn't seem like any of the changes that I made are working out and I'm at a point now where I just can't justify continuing to make the videos that I've been making. They take up too much of my time and lately it's been feeling more and more like I'm putting too much energy into something that isn't yielding the results that I had hoped for.

Patreon also seems to operate in a weird way where you can access the bonus content without initially paying for a membership so I've been encountering a good handful of people lately that become a patron, get whatever content they like, and then cancel their membership before making a payment, and this has continued to discourage me as well because often times getting a new patron gives me the boost of confidence that I need to keep my channel going but as of late they usually end up being false alarms that cancel shortly after joining and I'm getting pretty burnt out on it happening so frequently.

This has been a decision that's been lingering in the back of my mind for a few months now and I've been hesitant to do it because I feel like I have built a little momentum over these past 3 years and I've been fighting not to give up on it, but lately I've been feeling much more discouraged then usual and it's become more and more of a struggle to find the energy to continue making these videos and I don't feel like I have it in me to keep it going anymore.

To everyone who has supported the channel in any way over the years, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I've meet so many cool people through this channel and I will forever value all of those connections that have been made. I'd also like to send a very special thank you to my loyal handful of patreon supporters who have regularly supported me at some point. Specifically Morgan, Matt, Daniel, Mark, Rajiv, Mick, Ioka, Ibonny, Jamie, Udo, Trey and Sean. You guys are amazing for your generosity and you were one of the main reasons for giving me the motivation to keep my channel going.

I'm sure I won't be completely done from making videos, but for the time being I really need a break from the grind that I've been trying to maintain, and if I do decide to make videos again, it will not be like how my channel is now. I wouldn't be doing Improv Ideas, Scales Deconstructed, Chord Expansion or the Monthly Line Studies. Like I said, I just can't justify making those videos anymore with the amount of time they take up in comparison to the revenue that they generate. I'm gonna be unlisting my Patreon in a few days but I will leave it up for the time being for any patrons who want to download the content before it goes away.

I have a video going up today and tomorrow and then I will be done. I will always be available for virtual lessons, just shoot me an e-mail at godette502@yahoo.com and I would be happy to set something up with you. Again, I can't thank you enough for your support over these years. Even though this channel didn't meet the expectations that I had hoped for, I'm still very grateful for the positive things that did come from it as well as every relationship that I developed. So I think that sums it all up. Apologies for the rant, I had a lot of stuff I needed to get off my chest but if you've read this far then thank you for hearing me out. Hopefully you'll see me again at some point, but for now I need to take a much needed break and decompress from all the pressure that I've been putting on myself. Part of me is definitely worried that I'm making a mistake, but the other part of me thinks that this is the best move to make and lately I've been leaning more and more in that direction and I think it's finally time to make that decision. Have a great new year and hopefully I will see you soon.

Sincerely,
Mike
