This week we held a funeral and burial for our tenth child.
Having never been through a miscarriage before, I really had no idea what to expect. I honestly, had no idea how to operate over the last two weeks. Every emotion, every physical pain, every spiritual frustration, felt strangely foreign.
But I recalled that life is a temporary assignment. Before this miscarriage, I would read something like this and say yeah yeah I know I know but I would go back to my worldly worries and stresses and go back to my stubborn self-reliant strategies, and go back to all my strategic planning and choleric control and easily forget the truth of this statement.
But as my priest reminded my family that our life is like an arrow being shot with a trajectory for heaven, I was overcome with an intimate feeling of just how deeply we are loved. And while the Lord weeps with us in our sorrow, He will allow the suffering if it means we grow closer to Him. This intimacy I KNOW in such a profound way, especially today. And while the earthly suffering is so difficult and honestly takes my breath away sometimes, there are these moments of deep intimacy that I just simply will not trade.
